Dear all,
My sister filed my family's immigration application in Aug 2000. According to Visa Bulletin for May 2011, F4 will be for 22JAN00 application. Can anyone here tell me the time for interview, the deadline for landing USA and the deadline for departing H.K.? My child is in P.4 now. Is it possible for him to complete P.6 before going to the US? Thousands of thanks.

Since婆婆 is home, why do you still have to send your kid to after school program. Your boy is only 5 years old, do you think that he can benefit from the program?

醒獅隊 sounds like fun. I don’t really devote time in league / after school activities. However, I am a volunteer for school trips. Every week, I also assist Corey to do extra homework (drawing / writing) and he will present it in class. It enhances his verbal / communication skills.

Meatballs,
There are some reasons why I want my son to complete P.6 in HK
[1] he can have mastery of chinese. Some of my relatives, ABCs, can speak and listen chinese, but can't read or write.
[2] he may work in HK or China when he grows up as the economy of China is expanding quickly.
[3] I want to save more before I go to the US. I think that I can't get any job in the US or may just get some part-time jobs.

其實K我都覺得可有可無，不過問題係有好多programs，
如果K唔入去以後就好難入，我有朋友就係因為覺K有同冇都得所以冇sign up，
去到1st grade想入但入唔到，要等到2nd grade先wait到位。

我老公就覺得如果可以，就想仔仔多D群體生活，多D活動，
有D programs會帶小朋友去公園玩，夏天會有field trips，
呢D婆婆幫唔到，而且婆婆都有自己嘢要做，唔想要吓吓要就我地，
我同婆婆講過，佢話如果要佢湊都冇所謂，但下年要湊埋妹妹就有D難度。
所以我都會試吓聯絡其他家長，如果今年唔得，希望下年可以有On-site program。

我喺仔女以前間學校都有voluntee好多嘢，party helper、Room Parent、field trip chaprone、
fund raising committee等，而家間preschool 冇PTA，冇mandatory fund raising，
但最近要維修個廁所，我都聯絡其他家長損款，老公就會幫個裝修工人一齊做工程。
今年農曆年，老公隊醒獅隊有去呢間新學校表演，對仔女不知幾開心，
係咁話俾其他同學聽老公係佢地D，兩個都話大過要舞獅，囡囡話要隻粉紅色嘅獅頭喎。

Hi Cambo,

Just my opinion (apply if you are coming to California) : -

Your son is now in P.4, 9 years old, right? 9 years old in here goes to 3rd grade.
If you comes when he's 11 years old, he should be in 5th grade which is the last year in elementary school unless you can find a K-8 school. It would be a bit hard for him to adjust and sit for the test to prepare him for middle school.

I agree that mastering Chinese is harder in US. But, you can sign him up to Chinese school in the weekend or look for school with immersion or language programs if available.

Economy is tough these days. If you and your husband have a good pay job in HK, it makes sense to save more before relocation.

Was your child born and raise in HongKong? If yes, 去到美國，繼續比中國書佢閱讀，寫下字，可能可以keep 住～～
我仔都係P.4，來香港三年，E+中文英文都半桶水，我怕佢月遲反美國月追唔上～～

agree what you said about it might be "hard to adjust"~~

but P.4 is about 10 years old. so if a child moves to US after completing P.6 in HK, he will be 12.
So I guess it might be even harder~~

Glad to know you here. My sister lives in CA, I will go to CA too.
My son was born and raised in HK. His academic standard is not so satisfactory. We go to US just because he is not as competitive as those students in HK. Just look for an easier way to complete his education. This is parents' responsibility. My husband and I are not really very eager to go, just for my son's benefit.
Do you know when I can go? I applied in Aug 2000. I heard some people had filed DS-230 and I-864 even though they applied later than me, but I hadn't done anything yet. Meatballs, when did you apply? Which state will you go?

I know that the later my son goes to the US, the more difficult he will get adjusted to the study environment. However, the migration process is quite slow which is out of my control.

Yes, education in HongKong is very competitive. 我覺得我push得個仔太緊，但係唔push又怕佢會fall behind～～

Btw, I'm in Hong Kong at the moment. Will move back to CA in June.

No, a private school. Not only we can't afford an international school, but also we are still on the waiting list after waiting for 3 year. This private school is not as pushy as local schools but it's still way too much for him.
