My baby is 2 1/2 month old. I'm still breastfeeding him but for some reasons, he has not poo poo in 3 days! Sometimes he would poo poo 3-4 times a day but sometimes, only once in 2 days. and this time, he has not poo poo in 3 days!! what to do? They say breastfed babies poo a lot but how come not the case for my baby?? He does not want to drink water either... any advice? :-(
My little one had the same problem and I was worry too. Doctor said if the stool is not too hard it is not a major problem, some babies just has slower bowel movements. After consulted with the doctor, I gave him some prune juice and exercised him a lot. And he is back to normal now.
A very good article on constipation for your reference: http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/79.html
no need to worry, for babies, several poo poo in one day or no poo poo in several days is normal provided that the poo poo is not very waterly. So if you breastfeeding your baby, there is no need to give him water if he does not like it as your milk is much more diluted than powder milk. However, if the baby does not like water, perhaps you may add a few drops of juice to the water and give him. It is better not to give infant too much sugar or perhaps no salt when they are young. Salt is sodium compound and will hurt their organs when consumed at young age.
Thank you everyone for your advice!! I have tried sticking a cotton bud into his anal and it works. the poo poo came out immediately. but I'm afraid that my baby will rely on this to poo and will not poo himself. I will give him more patience and let him try to poo himself lar... thanks and I will also try massaging him...
