Hi all, I am a new mum and my baby boy is now 16 months. Like any other mums, I had been looking at N class information for the past 6 months. From selecting the right kindergartens to as detail as the dress codes for the interviews. Trust me, it was such a pain!!The thing is I couldn't find many updated information online nor from friends.What I concerned most was what questions the teachers would ask in the interviews?So I thought why don't I share my experience with whom may need these info later? Especially in this difficult time with Covid-19,many interviews were carried out online and involved video recordings. The interviews are still ongoing, therefore I am just gathering those we had completed.

Applied: Boxhill (MOS), Creative(Castello), Think (MOS), Jingle Bell (City One), Emmanuel Church (Kwong Yuen Estate), Wellborn (MOS), Good Health Anglo-Chinese (MOS), Joyful (Fotan),Caritas Nursery (Tai Wai)

The interview questions are as below.

Boxhill (MOS): Interview with a Chinese teacher with Cantonese in person

How do u call him at home?

Who take care of him at home?

Does he use spoon to feed himself yet?

Start potty trained yet?

Anything he doesn't like to eat?

Does he get along with extended family?

Any playmate with similar age? Is he willing to share toys with him/her??

What is your expectation of him?

Do u plan to send him to traditional primary school or international ones?

Then teacher turned to baby and asked him where is your nose? where is your eye?

Think (MOS): First uploaded a 2 minutes video showing the interaction between baby and parents, baby’s small muscle ability, self care ability and object fetching. Few days later, zoom interview with two teachers, one with English and one with Cantonese

First with the English teacher:

Who take care of baby at home?

What language normally use at home?

What kind of activity would do with baby?

What toys he play with?

What books he likes to read?

Then with Chinese teacher with Cantonese:

Emmanuel Church (Kwong Yuen Estate): One Chinese teacher interviewed 3 families at the same time

Who take care of baby at home?

Is it ok to take a full day course? No half day available

Our religion is Christian, is it ok?

I guess the teacher had slightly been distracted as she needed to interview 3 families at the same time. So she didn’t ask many questions.

Creative (Castello): Interview with a Chinese teacher

Mainly tested baby’s ability. Teacher took out a puppet and a stuffed dog and tried to talk to baby but he was scared sothe teacher had to take them back.

Then showed him the stacking and sorting toy, asked him to put the blocks into the poles.

Played with a ball and asked him to roll a ball back to her.

Showed him how to play a hand grab board with animal figures and asked him to match.

Asked him to point out where is his eye.

Joyful (Fotan): Only submission of three videos and a 100 words paragraph explaining why you think Joyful World is the right school for your child and your beliefs and values in early childhood education.

Wellborn (MOS): Video interview with a western teacher

Teacher called us first and told us to prepare different shapes and colourful toys and books.

How do you call him?

Bring a puppet and I told her he is scared of it. She then withdrawn and started to sing “ Head shoulders knees and toes”

Where is eye? Where is ear?

Showed him several fruits and asked him how they called? Apple, banana, orange.

Asked him to pick up red, blue and green toys.

Showed him cards with different shapes (triangle and circle) and asked him to pick up the toy with same shape.

Sang “The wheel on the bus”

Then she turned to me and asked how many words he can say now?

What language we use at home?

Who take care of him?

Any health issue?
