我有朋友對我說我計留了FAMILY SUPPORT FROM GOVENRMENT，是否真的可以攞，EVEN我未住夠2年，同埋D FAMILY SUPPORT好似可以有租屋$，真的嗎？

我親友, 只有一部車, 小朋友在隔離街上child care, 一個駕車返工, 另一個就坐巴士轉火車.
所以, 最終要看你住的地區交通是否便利, 小朋友上學地點, 和上班的地點.

yes, you can get it once you landed. It is Family Tax Benefit A and B. Depending on your family income, if you earn less than the threshold, you can get some FTB A or/and FTB B.

Rent assistance is in FTB B.

I saw the other topic, one of the mum already leave you the link for the tax calculator and the FTB A / B threshold and assistance.

If you earn $70k, let say your partner no income or less than the threshold, your rent assistance may around $60 every two weeks....

Not really assists much....

Some data may share with you:

1) Rent, around $350 per week (water charge included)
2) electricity ~$3 per day ($21pw)
3) Medical insurance ~$220 per month ($51pw)
4) Car rego ~$650 ($12.5pw)
5) Car insurance ~$500 (~$10pw)
6) Petrol ~$50pw
7) Home phone normal use~$40 per month ($9pw)
8) Mobile normal use ~$50 for two ppls (~12pw)
9) Broadband ~$50 pm (~12pw)

So total spending around $530pw

Around $900 income after tax per week for $70k pa income, which mean you have $370 pw left for food, childcare etc

Let say you entitle FTBA+B+rent assistant = $260 every two weeks = $130 pw

Then you have $500 pw for food, childcare etc etc

From year end tax return, you may receive tax return around $3-4k = $77pw

So total you will have $577pw for food and others... It is up to your life style, how often to eat out etc to justify $577pw for food and others stuff is it enough or not...

from April 2009 onwards, water charge is no longer included in the rent, the tennant has to pay for water.

broadband depends on the area, if the area is covered by several companies, then you can choose the cheapest one. But if the area is covered only by Telstra, then have to pay a lot.

Of course, there are some areas which have no ADLS connection at all and badly covered by wireless broadband, then you don't need to pay.

I only know tentant has to pay water bill if renting house.

Yes, house usually needs tentant to pay water bill but townhouse is single meter per complex, so rent no need to pay water charge and the owner paid it.

I found the cheapest electricity retailer is AGL Engery. Try to switch to them which is cheaper then Origin.

aye.......I wish I could choose a cheaper company......but no such luck, we have energex and origin here only, and the landline is one and only one : Telstra. We are fortunate already, because we have ADLS, some area in my subsurb don't. And people in those area have to use wireless broadband (unreliable too). I read from newspaper that this is a serious problem for my suburb, and people are moving out of this area because of it.

on the happy side, I find a lot of parks nearby, going to have lots of fun with the kids, 哈哈!

You still can change the electricity retailer. They are not bond by the area because Energex generate electricity for whole SE QLD. Origin just get the meter reading from Energex and issue the bill to you.

但吾知買什麼魚(有冇中英文名),魚那一部分比較好 ?
在那裡可以買 ? (Yuen’s Market, Inala or CoCo or ……),
要加其它什麼一起煲 ??

好似係山班魚, 但唔識英文名, 亦唔知呢度有無得賣.
另一個選擇係猪腳花生湯.
如果有羗醋, 都一樣得.
若乜都無, 飲多D水, 奶或普通湯水都得.

Worry is normal. You have to ask yourself why you need to migrate? For kids or for yourself career or for living?

If for last two, then don't come because no point to come to Brisbane. Most opportunitiy are in Sydney or Mel.

If for kids, then you have to be ready it is tough, you may not able to work same position as in HK or even working on same field.
You don't have maid to do housework too.

I came here is for kids and for family life. I came here without any job offered, the first few weeks already spent almost A$10k in buying white goods, renting's bond etc etc without $1 income. I was worry too and frustrate to look for job.

I cannot get back to work same field as I was in HK so I started to work casual in a migration agent shop as assistant to do office boy's works. At least kept me to work and get $12 per hr.

I kept looking for job and I have changed 5 jobs in one year until now I already worked almost 2yrs with same post as I was in HK....

I have a friend who used to be a senior teacher in HK but now working in child care, another case my friend used to be doing accouting and now start to work in age care etc etc. They adopted the situation here and make the change.

They and me still survive. I was worry too before I came but I am a Christian, I leave it to God and HE give me peace of mind. I am single income family of 4. I still survive with God bless.

My husband and I are also thinking about moving to Oz. The only reason is for my son's (almost 2yrs) education.

The biggest problem now is our jobs. Is it hard to find a job in Brisbane? My huband work in the IT field (system support) and I'm a merchandiser. I don't mind if I have to change field as long as I could get a job to survive there. Where should we start if we want to look for a job in Brisbane?
