My experience is that you must treat her good (as your baby will be on her hand) and at the same time let her know what are your rules and what is your priority.
It is very important to list down what you need her to do, what you like and what you don't like clearly in a list and discuss with her at the beginning of the contract. The best time is on the 2nd or 3rd day after she arrived. The first day should let her settle down.
Usually, most of the girls are not bad but no one is perfect. You need to get prepare to accept some of her weakness. The most important is let her know your priority and what would make you angry.
Thank you ThierryMaMa, viviancfhung & Eve. Thank you for your info & suggestions. At last i decided to send my son to N1 near my home and medium of instruction is English. It's because I don't want him to spend too much time on transportation and i can't find Eng (50%) & Mandarin (50%) N1 nearby. Anyone interested in teaching my son Mandarin, pls pm me. :-P
ThierryMama,
I think checking reference w/ her previous boss and praying (i'm a christian) are most important according to my experience. I'm happy w/ my existing helper. Good luck!
bbych2004, I also select a kindergarten which is near our home to my kid. There is one PTH lesson each week. I hope she can at least get some contact with it.
I think I started quite well in my daughter's early PTH education. She could say most of the food, numbers, colours, body parts, household items and a few simple poems in PTH before two. However, we then shift to English and she then has no improvement in PTH. I guess it is partly because I myself am not very confident of my PTH. Maybe, I need to find her a good PTH teacher.
Hi Eve
wow, your daughter is clever. Why don't you have confidence in your PTH? Where are you from? Have you been talking to your daughter in English since she was two? How old is she now?
Hi 小新媽媽
Thanks for your sharing. You're really talented in language. And your son is bi-lingual....will be tri-lingual when he studies English at school. :)
When you read Chinese characters, will you pronounce them in Cantonese, Mandarin or 鄉下話?
Interesting!
bbych2004, I am a local born Chinese. Since I have a lot of Taiwan relatives, I have very early contact with Mandarin. However, since my mom didn't insist of teaching me Mandarin, my Mandarin is not particularly good. Though I can communicate with others in Mandarin, my Taiwan friends say that I have Cantonese accent. I can teach my kid PTH but for better PTH, I better rely on a teacher.
ppsbyronyk, 你好!Since I am not good at Chinese typing, I usually type in English. It takes me very long time to type a sentence of Chinese.
I am looking for some mandarin speaking VCDs for early childhood education (my son is 3yo). Does any of u have recommendation? About how much do they cost & where can I buy them please? Thanks a lot.
