Hi pigpig

did you give birth in private or public hospital?

End up around how much out of pocket you need to pay? My friend wants to find out the cost to give birth here with private health fund covered and baby bonus.

My bb was born in Mar09 in a private hospital in Sydney, can share some with you. mine was a natural birth.

1) Depends on the excess of the private health fund. if there is no excess, then, all the hospital expenses are covered by the health fund.
- mine excess was $200. I paid $200 to the hospital 4 weeks before bb due. Hospital sent the bills to my fund directly. my fund sent me statement and stated that they paid around $5000 and $1100 to the hospital for my stay and my bb in ICU one night. as my bb went to ICU, so there is a private pediatrician to follow up. I need to settle the bill and 100% claim the health fund because it's related to my bb's hospital stay.

2) Depends on how much the Obstetrician charge.
- mine charge $2400, $1200 claimed private health fund.

3) Pre-natal check up fee. Partly claim medicare. no claim for private health fund.
- had about 15 visits, out pocket total around 15 x $35 (average) = $525

4) 12weeks and 20 weeks scans. Partly claim medicare, no claim for private health fund
- $120 each, claim around half, so out pocket around $120

5) pregnancy diabetes check. Partly claim medicare, no claim or private health fund
- don't remember, but should be no more than $50

For my health fund, I have to be with them for 12month by the time I give birth. So, I joined the fund before we start our family plan I joined the Single cover to start with, and then joined the family cover (to cover bb's hospital expenses too) when I was around 6 months old pregnant. every fund is diff, need to check with them carefully.

我係政府醫院生既，所以真係一蚊都唔需要俾.....
而且，我覺得政府醫院服務超好，因為我本身甲狀線有事﹙但有私家醫生跟進﹚，但醫院都安排我每2星期返醫院覆診一次﹙每次都係見醫生﹚，臨生前就每星期一次。
而且，醫院既醫生、助產士真係一流！
我好好彩，預約開刀時，遇到一個中國人女醫生，佢俾日子我選擇開刀，而且又應承自己負責手術﹙因為RWH係一間實習醫院，所以手術係有機會由實習醫生負責﹚
如果整過懷孕過程順利，醫院就會安排孕婦去GP度做產前檢查。
懷孕期間，會有照超聲波2-3次既機會，呢樣就要自費，但可以拎返大部份既錢。
所以，我今胎係唔需要俾任何費用，就已經可以得到好好既醫療服務

Mater一流呀！本來今胎我都想係果度生﹙我朋友極力推介﹚，我打電話去問過，佢地話我地址無問題，點知到我去信申請時，因為我預產期太近聖誕節，所以拒絕我申請呀....同埋我住果區，第一選擇係RWH，所以最後我都無得去Mater生BB....

你生左成15個鐘？咪好辛苦囉？
我開刀個傷口，比上次長，但今次就埋口埋得幾好，開刀後一個星期已經無咩點痛；反而係因為麻醉藥令到我皮膚敏感，醫生話呢個情況比較少見
