I would go on July 7 staying at Shangri-la Tangung Aru. Wish I have seen your posting before booking, I paid a lot more than you guys.

Breakfast are inclusive, anyone knows is it buffet breakfast? Thanks.

So lucky that I can find this forum. We're going to take our kids to KK during end of Aug.

Would like to know if anyone of you have been staying in Gayan Island Resort (A resort on Gaya Island)? Any advice?

I'm going to buy a package of 5 days or 6 days from travel agent. If I would like to stay 1 night in the above resort, how can it be arranged?

I stayed at Gayana Island Resort for 1 night last year. The beach there is amazing (a wide variety of fish, sea cucumbers & stars, etc). You must book the sea-facing house in order to have the stunning view & comfortable breeziness. Don't expect the resort is as luxary as the 5-Star hotels in KK. But, they provide basic amentites and facilities. I'd highly recommend this resort.

I'd suggest you to book a 4-day hotel package + 1 extra night. You shall stay in KK for the first 3 nights to fulfill the package requirement coz some packages have restriction. On the 4th day, check-out the hotel & leave the large luggage in the hotel (just pack some necessities to Gayana) Stay 1 night on Gayana. Return to the KK hotel on the 5th day.

I get what you mean. However I prefer to stay in the resort on the 2nd or 3rd day. Do you think the travel agent can help to arrange this?

Where can I book Gayana Island Resort? Through HK agent? or I should book it online by myself? How much per night? If you don't mind, could you tell me where did you book your pacakge? Grateful if you could provide me any necessary information.

If you wanna stay at Gayana on the 2nd or the 3rd, you have to check with your travel agency coz I know some of them are straight. You may try Hongthai/ Swire Travel / Jardine Travel as they should be not as straight as Wincastle/Lotus.

I booked the Gayana by myself. Firstly, I booked thru a Malaysia agency (http://www.pinganchorage.com.my/malaysia_hotel/kotakinabalu_gayana_island_resort.htm) but they had very slow response & I was told that all the rooms were full during my travelling period eventually. Then, I telephoned to Gayana Resort (http://www.gayana-resort.com/info.html) to check the room availability. Luckily, I was able to book a seafacing room. I emailed them my credit card details and then they faxed me the booking confirmation. As I know, you couldn't book this resort thru HK agencies. You can check the room rate via the links provided.

That means I need to contact the travel agencies to check the package first. Then I have to contact the resort by myself and make a booking. When the booking of the resort is confirmed, then I go to buy the package. Is it correct?

btw, what's the name of the 'sea facing' room? From their web site, they have Superior Water Villa
and Deluxe Water Villa. I suppose it is the more expensive one, right?

I booked the room called "Double room seaview" at RM255/night last year (The rate is much expensive this year). You better check with Gayana Resort to guarantee a seafacing room. I don't know the main difference between Deluxe & Superior, may be the size?

You should touch base with an agency that allow feasible arrangement first. After you confirm the room at Gayana, you advise the agency of your plan.

In their web site both Deluxe and Superior room cost RM6xx. wow, what a big difference. I will try to book a Double room seaview then.

I sent an email to Gayana yesterday to check room availability and rate. But haven't receive any reply so far. I'll wait for a few days or I better call them directly.

My hubby said if the resort is so great, we can stay there for 2 nights! I'm afraid it will be too much. Any advice?

btw, how about the food and other expenses on the island? is it expensive or not? Thanks.

1) You better call to the resort after sending them email. Most of the Malay people with slow response.

2) If you love sun & beach a lot, you shall consider to stay at Gayana Resort for 2 nights. Otherwise, 1 night good enough. You'll have a wild & nature feel staying on an island rather in city. There are only 1 seafood/Thai restaurant & 1 bar in the Resort. I can only say "ok" for the food quality but not expensive. Just afraid you'll feel boring if you are not a super fan of sun & beach. Of course, if stay 2 nights there, you shall visit the other 2 islands (Manukan & Sapi) as well. There is ferry transfer btw Gayana & other islands.

Water Chalet : 1 ROH (Run-Of-House) Twin/King
What is Run-of house????

Rate : RM380nett per room per night

Breakfast for child : RM23.00 nett per child

Peak season surcharge : RM60nett per room per night applies on 15 July - 31 August 2006

Return Ferry Charges : RM20nett per adult / RM10nett per child. Ferry transfer takes about 25 minutes from KK Jetty Terminal to Gayana.

Surcharge for guarantee sea facing : RM60 nett per room per night

That means it is around RM500 per night for a sea facing room. What time did you stay there last year? Is it peak season? The difference is big, almost double.

I also think 2 nights may be a little bit too much. I will go to check the package later. Thanks again for your advice.
