My friend asked why TSL has only a few NET teacher despite its reputation for good English teaching.
- Some are CBCs I think. The few NET teachers teach phonics. And remember - not all NETs are British. And you can't expect all who teach Engl to be NET - this is vvv practical.
All teachers in TSL, incl those teaching Chin (with a few exceptions cos 1 or 2 are from Northern part of Chin obviously), speak Engl and though they may not be as fluent as my bosses at least their Engl is OK to good and they make a genuine effort to build an Engl-speaking environment.

Can you give me a few good reasons for applying for TSL?
- caring teachers and principal (esp the former principal; not sure about this new one yet, he's been there for only half a year)
- more teachers who are more understanding towards kids' behaviour and are not as harsh as many in govt schools
- the workload is acceptable, light to medium only, some aggressive parents may not like it this way but it's fine to me. And you know lazy piglet finds his minimal workload vvv heavy already.
- cheap school fees vs the quality of what I get back from the school, in fact vvv cost effective !
Let you know if and when I think of more.
Actually, sometimes it's my own preference and maybe I should say I like it by intuition (difficult to analyse hehe).

Why does it admit so many Indian/ Pakistan students (probably also the rich ones)? Becuase of its good foreign language teaching?
- No.
Historically it was a Portugese school (Camoes) near my school. Later I think Camoes found it difficult to recruit suff students and teamed up with PLK, so that non-Chin kids can cont to receive a decent education, and PLK can have another pr school under its name. Win-win situation. And so TSL is obliged to admit X% of students who are ethnically non-Chin (I think it was ~1/3), and nowadays in HK it means mainly Ind/Pak. But those who attend TSL should be the richer ones, cos they could have gone to free local pr schools otherwise. I've seen some vvv demanding Ind parents in TSL. So non-Chin do get some sort of priority in this sense.
There're a few Jap, Korean, Eurasians, Engl, Nepalese, ...in each class. Quite international, and the kids may speak in both Engl and Chin when they play. If kids play with the Fr-students (ie those NOT taking Chin as main subject and take Fr instead), and piglet is one of these, they also chat and play in Engl and a little Chin. Their common language is 1. Engl, 2. Chin.
Some ethnic Chin students don't know Chin cos they were not born in HK and so they have to study Fr too.
Cannot distinguish mother tongue by looking at a kid.
Piglet's Engl was minimal when he got in, now OK. Accent OK, sometimes Indian accent which I need to correct haha. But not a problem.
And even in my old school, there were quite a few (8-10 per year out of around 120) Ind/Pak/Portugese students anyway.

What is the latest track record of graduates going to Band 1 Secondary School ?Haha, this is what I want to know too when this distribution is purely based on academic results.
But the distribution is still based on the model for schools wtih no track record re academic results. From past few yrs, admission is 1/3 to Band 1, 1/3 to Band 2 and 1/3 to Band 3. This is becos it is a "new" school, its own P6 "graduates" produced since ~2006. (I think, cos it became DSS in 2000 ??) so pro-rata 1/3 to each band cos there was no precedent case of academic results, no track record for better / worse distribution etc. No choice.

Some kids who are smart are really smart - son of 1 of my classmates now in QC said a TSL kid was admitted to QC in his year, vvvvv brilliant academically and all-rounded. And in the past Marymount admitted a lot of girls. But heard that the first 2 batches of graduates were more brilliant than those last yr. Need to see see this year.

Anyway, at least they teach decent Engl, and the teachers are not the unkind ones. So far so good.
Will be more concerned and put my rabbit ear up when I get nearer to P5.

Please do so.But my friend attending the P1 talk was so disappointed with the 'contents' of the talk this evening. Her conclusion is 'grand' but not 'her cup of tea'.

Pls let me know your friend's opinion too. Just know that parents and kids are happy with the school.

Bullies are common in ALL schools.
Its a problem with the kid, the family.
Some bullies are the best in class academically,
and many bully classmates but behave beautifully in front of teachers and have excellent results.
Cannot avoid bullies, they're everywhere !

Your friend went to the talk. I registed but long queue on the list, the school will call me when they hold the next ones.
I'm not sure really if Logos and GT (浸附王錦輝中小 is another one in my mind) is what I want. While I won't move away from Sai Kung, these 3 are kinda close to my home, time and distance on transportation is ok. I want a school in a playful environment, not much written homework (projects, handcraft, presentation is fine), not much written exam/test. Learn throught activity, better to be good in lauguage communication. Affordable school fee。I cannot aford international school fee, so, I can't think of which school would be my ideal one

Do look see at Pui Kiu too.
Big Pig went to film the kids and found them vvvvv receptivr, vvvvv active, lots of self-initiative to learn. And teachers don't kill off creativity. The kids could climb on desk in front of the principal / teacher. Definitely extroverts.

go to their website and see the videos made by
Campus TV team.
All with help from teachers,
but teachers do not overpower the kids in making them.
And you get to see their xxxxx Day / yyyyy Week activities,
quite a lot of ECA for kids.
The problem is, not enough time to join all your favourites.

etc.
