Very very nice drawing and lovely 'action words'!! My son becomes crazy about 'sloth' (which 'hardly moves at all') after reading the book. He always show me an upside-down look of himself like a sloth 樹懶!! Very funny. He always tries to 'strut' likes a rooster.. Ha....

.[size=medium]Dinosaurs Roar!by Paul Stickland, Henrietta Stickland

"Dinosaur roar, dinosaur squeak, dinosaur fierce, dinosaur fast,..."

Ages 3-5. Dinosaurs are the gimmick here, not really the subject. The subjects are, first, antonyms--such as above/below and weak/strong--and then lunch. The paired dinosaurs, in a goofy array of pastels, are almost all smiling, even when the rhyme insists they're "grumpy"--so when they settle down to a lunch with (and not of) each other, the end is satisfying. The pictures and swingy short verses will make this a good group read-aloud, even for the very young.

My comments: Very cute dinosaurs, excellent for young kids to learn antonyms (whether verbs or adjectives). The book ends with a very rhymatic phrase:

[size=medium]gobble gobble nimble nimble munch munch, scrunch (a dinosaur even eats up the letter 'h' of the last word 'scrunch')..

Highly highly recommended!!!

Che, I have never ordered at paddyfield as I usually like to compare prices first. Wow, if you could make a bookshelf 4' x 10', your house must be enormous indeed.

The only way to avoid too many books is to resell those which is worth reading but not owning. Or, don't buy books unless totally necessary ... :mrgreen:

a wonderful book of opposites for young kids

"The Foot Book" by Dr. Seuss is a Bright and Early Book for Beginning Readers, a series of books for the youngest of the young. The idea here is that the stories are brief and funny, the words are few and easy, and there is always a catchy sense of rhyme. Of course "The Foot Book" is about not only the foot (singular) but feet (plural). There are more references to feet (plural) than to feet (singular), if you happen to pay attention to such things (which, apparently, I did). But the key part of this book are all the adjectives that Dr. Seuss comes up with for all those feet.
This happens mostly in terms of oppositional pairs such as right and left, wet and dry, high and low, front and back, etc. Of course sometimes rhyme comes into play as well, such as when we go from small feet to big feet and then to pig feet. The illustrations all feature the strange hairy creatures that populate the imagination of Dr. Seuss, although you will see a pair of rather normal looking kids in the mix as well. Did you ever stop to think that Dr. Seuss is probably the most influential poet of his generation? He is certainly the most imitated, and behind all those silly rhymes was a deep desire to get kids to read. Once your beginning reader has read "The Foot Book," be sure to have them check out the sequel, "Fox in Sox."

This book of wacky opposites engages young children, while being fun to read out loud and something that they can quickly handle on their own. Great for the classroom!

by PHYLLIS ROOT, HELEN CRAIG (Illustrator) (Paperback)

When Bonnie Bumble eats plum turnovers for breadfast one morning, her whole wold turns upside down. This is a good humorous book, in color, for students K-2 grade.

A very very lovely story. Bonnie ate 5 out of 6 plum turnovers. When she got out of her chair, she could only stand up-side-down, and then did every thing up-side-down until she finished the 6th turnover. She turned the right side up. BUT.... her dog, called spot, had eaten some crumbs left out by her bite of the last turnover. The dog then walked up-side-down!!

Very very humourous!! Highly recommended.

Hi Che,

I have placed order at paddyfield for English children books several times. So far I found their service is just so-so cos the time of delivery and response to customers is quite slow (when compared with amazon).

Beware of the books marked with a "#" which means delivery may take more than 4 weeks. So it is suggested to separate order for books with "#" from other books which can be delivered under normal time period.

My paddyfield orders which placed in mid April is still outstanding just because 2 books are marked with a "#"!! And I've just received email from them that other 2 books are out of print!!!!

Did you sign up to be their members? You can get 10 book bucks (equivalent to $10) and can use them in your first order la!
