and I also find that the auto focus is not working well, as many of my pictures are completely out of focus and blurred!

Hihi Suz,

I have watched your photos, here are some of my opinions or suggestions:

1. Since I do think that 300D or 10D is not so powerful on metering function comparing to 1D or 1V, the exposure compensation is needed to be adjusted. +1/3 or +1/2 correction maybe needed depending on your accumulated experience on the 300D body. Sometimes, you have to adjust +2/3 when you take some 背光 photos.

2. What is your metering method for taking the photo? For me, if I take a 風景 photo, I will use evaluative metering. If I take a portrait photo, I will use partial metering.

3. I saw that you like to take portriat more, then you have to try to 測光 on the body face first and then AE lock the exposure parameter and then reconstructure your photo again. It will make your photo 測光 more accurate. It is because I saw your photo, as I saw the clothing is very bright (white or light grey), it will mislead the camera to be under exposure.

4. If you take portrait photo and the body is 背光, you have to use a flash.

These are only my observation and it is just for your reference.

Hi stccmc,

Since the 1V/1D/1Ds has the most important function, 點測光（3.8%面積) and this function is usually used by the user, that is the reason why I think the 1系's metering capability is better. Besides, since I used 1V, 3, 50E, 300D and 10D, from my personal experience (it maybe different from others), 1V performs the best in the metering capability even in the 背光 situation.

Yes, I agree! I tried 1V at Canon showroom long time ago and I like it very much too!

"1 series" is the top Canon product line and it should be better!

點測光 is only available in top Canon series... However, it's available for most of the Nikon cameras...

Is 1D Mark II using the similar metering system?

300D use balance metering, right!? ie measure the whole (or some % !?) picture. So, People dressed in white(light color) or black(drak color) does matter!

And personally I don't think those photos are too dark as actually most of them was taken on a cloudy day, no sunshine, right!?

Yes, try using EC to improve it.

About blur or out-focus, better use a tripod to shoot a steady object to verify weather your 300D got this problem.

And one more, I got 50mm F1.4 and kit-lens. 50mm F1.4 does provide a better image than the kit-lens. The kit-len can provide you a fine image, but not a very good one! :-(

Yes, 50mm 1.4 is a very good lens (I use 50mm 1.8 b4 and it is also a good lens and very cost-effective). After I have bought it, I seldom use other lens to take portrait photos. I think its quality is excellent.

Hi all,

i'm also using 300D and i using C1 Rebel to convert the RAW file to JPEG. Yes, sometimes the 300D would give not so light photo but if you are using RAW, it is easily to adjust.
The worst thing of C1 Rebel is it just can convert 10 RAW in one time.

I took about 300 pictures yesterday and today, but I keep getting ERR messages, and the 300D locks up every time. I had to switch the power off and then turn it on again in order to continue shooting.......???? wonder why????

It seems that it's not working well... (abnormal).

Did you try any firmware upgrade or 'hack' program?

How long did you buy it? I think you should ask the dealer to replace a new one (within few days) or/ ask Canon to check it.

Is it err 99? Some got this problem, it might be due to CF card problem.. use better CF (Scandisk..etc) is the solution.
