During the day is ok la. To me, Nottingham is an interesting county with nice places to go, especially if you like the Robin Hood story but it is such a shame that it is also a place with high crime rate. Am sure every county is the same: some areas are good some are not ~ so be very careful where you go.

are you sure?? try to live in Southgate, mill hill, hamstead or Richmond (they are all in London) i am sure you will say these places are really lovely and peaceful.

Hello pingmum,

I am new to UK, too. I live in Herts, south-east of England. It is a very quiet village live, my social life is zero. My kids go to primary school here, and I do get to meet other parents, but only say hi and bye, don't know what else to talk about, they are pretty much white and local. The quality of living is actually very good, better than Hong Kong, and my kids are loving the space they have, so does my husband. I am the only one who complaints. I go to central london once or twice a week to walk around when my kids at school.

I think it is easier to start a conversation when mums have kids of similar age. I would feel even more embarassing to start talking to people in the supermarket or at bus-stops... Just start by saying hello & bye to those kids' mums if you see you kids talking to theirs and start asking little questions when there are any notice/announcements from schools...English like to talk about weather all the time...
