My boy was born in Sydney.
I was a PR, holding HKID and HK passport with Chinese Nationality.
I tried to apply the HK passport in Sydney for my boy (he didn't have OZ passport at that time), but HK immigration rejected my application. If your information is right, why my application has been rejected??
If we apply the HK passport in HK, he has to apply the OZ one first in order he can fly to HK, so, shouldn't work this way?!
I can tell you by the time my baby was born, he is Aussie regardless if he is holding the OZ passport or not because I was a PR.
I've been told some of the australian born babies/toddlers have both australian and HK passports, I just don't know how it can happens. Perhaps, the lack of experience of THAT immigration officer?
my first kid was born in 2007. while i am OZ citizen & my hubby was holding TR. My first one's HKID card (3*) was granted in Nov 2007.
My younger one was born in 2010 when my hubby was holding PR. My younger was granted the HKID (3*) in Mar 2011.
From our experience, it is harder to get the HKID while my hubby is holding the PR. We are mainly residing in HK since 2006. I guess this is the main reason why my 2 kids got granted.
Puib, I would like to know where you are going to reside after the bb was born. & which passport is more important to you.
Dear all mommies, thanks all your opinions. You have given me a better understanding on the baby matter.
Dear emi1y, this year going forward I will stay in Oz. And to me HKSAR passport is much important. But I am a bit confused on your case. Did both your kids born in Hong Kong or Oz? If your kids born in HK, they should deserve to get HKID(3*), right?

Hi, Puib, if you will be residing in OZ, it will be hard for your bb to get the HKID (3*). when he will be deliveried in OZ. In this case, you can apply a resident visa for him/her when you returns. It takes 7 yrs to get the HKID (3*) if the policy didnt change.
When you deliveried in HK, your bb will hold a HKID. if I remember right, your bb can't get the citizenship straightaway. In stead, he/she will have a PR firstly. & the bb benefits may be different.
This is a complicated & hard decision for you. Anyway, good luck & take care~~
Totally agree with emily, I think the main reason depends on the intention for which country that you are going to reside.
My 2 kids were also born in OZ in 2007 & 2010 and got the Australian passport, afterthat they applied and granted HKSAR passport, HKID and 回鄉証。
From my experience, its better to give birth in Oz not only for medical, baby bonus and other benefits, but also to get the citizenship straightaway. Then you can apply for HK PR and get HKID card if you will return to HK and reside definitely.
