I don't believe. I will tell her be careful not to lose money in future, otherwise, she need give the money back to me next time. If she still want to "stay" at your home, she will not do again.
I had some experiences that my ring and money "disappear". I will pretend hopeless to my maid that I cannot find myself (but tell her I very very confirmed that the ring and money is somewhere/at home) and I will ask her to find out when I go out. Ha, when I came back, she really "help" me to find out.
Although she is apparently lying, I don't think it is wise to ask her compensate IF YOU HAVE KIDS AT HOME THAT SHE NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF. Afterall, your kids are priceless. You don't know what's in her mind. Better play safe with domestic helpers.
However, I agree with many people who've expressed their views that she should warn her to be more careful in future, and let her know that she needs to compensate for further "losses".
