Jun got sore thoat, fever last week. Fever has gone now, but then cough follows... He was so grumpy these days, tired of course. It's really easy to get spread at school.

2 ECA per month easily cost $2k. That makes your school fee not that expensive afterall! But I heard that SPCC would pick & choose students with particular talent for certain ECA to excel further.... In other words, not every kid has the same exposure or what they want??? BTW, Kv is very bright to have finished Grammar Lab Bk3 last June

Yes, you're right! Some of the free ECAs e.g. Speech workshop, creative writing, Eng Drama (except Shakespear 4 all which is a paid ECA and free to join), musical insturment (blowing insturment/percussion), choir ... are selected by teachers for students to join.

Actually vacancies are also limited in non-selective ECAs, hence it may need to draw lots and students won't be able to get what they want too!

Have just received letter from the School Board of Directors.

School fee will be increased to $60K p.a. wef school year 2009/10! Representing 25% increase --> much higher than inflation... :(

Correction. Try Commercial Press TST for Bk 3. Sam Luen only has Bk 1 & 2.

Which teacher does your son learn chinese go from? My son just started learning from Mr Leung - seemed not able to command the class very well.

my son's teacher for the elementary level is Mr. Leung. But wonder is it the same one. He is quite mature comparing other teachers.

For the 2nd and 3rd teacher -- Mr. Chan and Mr. Cheung. Those are young men and much better.

Hokkaido must buy things :

sweet corn - you can buy it at the airport, the one with the green skin cover, cheap and super sweet.

potatoes french fries - it is limited for each person, 2 packs per person. also available at the airport, comparing to the one which is recently available is HK (Calbee) almost $10 per box, the one available in Hokkaido is cheap.

May I chip in some ideas about Hokkaido as well? I joined EGL a few years back in winter. It was ok. But 1 lesson learned is never never buy (facial masks, electric blanket etc) products from the HK guide. Of course, no harm done buying snacks from him - as u know he is going to earn some commission on it, just a token to thanks. But other stuff, don't trust the guide - just a plain lie! Rockmelon is cheaper in small cities such as Furano than Sapporo. But I don't know if it's still in season then. Have fun!

Is your son in intermediate class? I am not sure who are Mr. Chan & Mr. Cheung .... I'll look them up on Sunday. I used to accompany my son to take his classes but I have stopped cos I have fallen behind by far. What time / which day does your son take lesson there? Wonder if our kids are taking chinese go together!
