Childcare/Long Day Care: for 0-5 yrs (in general runs between 7am to 6pm, but fees are high for such long hours). It is more on “caring”, “looking after” and less in learning. It will have singing, drawing and group activities. It can start anytime upon center have vacancies.

Pre-school: for 3-5 yrs (in general runs 9am to 3pm, pay less fees for shorter time). It is more “school life” and “structural”- just like school. It will have more learning like writing, drawing, singing, specific topics on animals, forest, aquarium, reptiles etc. Normally starts end Jan/early Feb as a new school year.

Kindergarten: for 5-6 yrs (normal school hour, can choose public or private school)

Year 1: >6 yrs (normal school hour, public/private)

If nobody take care the kids (both parents are working), then parents put the kids in childcare center until they reach normal school age. If parents are able to pick up the kids before 3pm, then they put kids in pre-schools (of course for 3-5 yrs) as kids can learn more and save money. It is all depends on the availability of parents.

So to my little Harris, it's best to attend around a year of childcare center ( i want some free time for myself) and switch to pre-school when he's around 3 so that he can have K2 or so in HK after we returned to HK... but which one??? What a troublesome decision! Do you have any suggestions?

Any good Oz milk powder?

Hi all the Sydney BK mums,

What kind of milk are/ were your kids drinking when they're 2?

I want a Oz produced one so it'll be cheaper. Hope the formula is also available in HK for I can let my kid to try it before we move to Sydney.

I am still exploring the information at very initial stage so I hv no ideas where I should live. Heard that many HK ppl live in Hursville and the rent is cheaper. Don’t you need to apply the VISA for you kid in HK? It seems kids also need to apply dependent VISA and right now, I am preparing the documents now.

My husband doesn't want to live in the area that is south of the river as his bosses ask him not to do so. That's why I've to switch to the North... expensive~~~ And of coruse I want to meet all the mum in Hurstville. Anyway, I know a little bit more about the schools in Lower North (I started searching with Lower North first).

Visa application? That's why you've to certify the true copies? My husband will be the independent applicant and my son and I the dependent one. We'll have a business visa (subclass 857??? can't remember) and we'll be temporary residents. I just follow what the stupid agent told me to do. Still in progress, don't know when could we get the visa. I'll quit my job only when the visa is confirmed.

Yes, full-time mum is a both awesome and awful job. What's good is that our kids can attend some day care center already. Hope we can get some not-so-expensive one.

Well, I confirmed with my husband whether my little Harris could have bread for lunch, could the home be messy and have less cleaning, he all said "yes" for this moment.... I tell myself to take all the things easy~~~

Have you ever think of going out to work? But need to have 5-day pre-school... very expensive....

When are you going to Sydney? Sorry, I can't remember.

You'll live in Pymble next year? I'll move to Sydney in this summer and looking for a place to live in the internet.

I think Pymble is good, right? Can you tell me more about that area (including Pymble, Kilara and so on) about the pre-schools, kids activities, in particular any good doctors and hosptials around? And, for any emergencies, should I just call 000(correct?) or it's like HK going to the emergency room?

My little Harris is now 22 months and I really want him to attend more days of daycare centers or playgroup... I want some day-off as a full-time mum. Which school and playgroup are Jaydeny attending? Pls give me some details. Thanks.

Hi,

I lived in Brisbane before but this time, I plan to move to Synedy since I think there are more job opportunities there and so many chinese there. So my kids can play with chinese or locals as well.

Yes, we will move to West Pymble mid next year .... West Pymble is next to Killara and Gordon.

Only 10 mins drive to Chatswood, 5 mins drive to Gordon station. few hospitals around 15 mins drive ~~ and 10 mins drive to Chatswood 24 hrs medical centre.... a lot of good doctor around area ga.... My GP live in St Ives.

Few childcare, pre-school & a lot kids activities around in the area.. e.g swimming lesson at the WP Swimming Pool & kids activities at Bicentennial Park.

We currently live in city, Jayden go to the childcare at world sq, a bit expensive in city AUD98.00 per day... the teacher at the toddler class are great and Jayden did a lot of painting, drawing and reading.... very small class only 7 or 8 kids in class... and will be 2 teachers look after them...

wow~~ Your info help me a lot! Hope Jayden and Harris can get along soon. Jayden must be talking a lot, right? My little Harris is still talking some baby language, the sentence is long but on one could understand it

City? Good? Actually, where to live is a big trouble. I'm considering Pymble, Killara (but got no supermarket but a milk bar?!), St. Leonards... aiah~~ any suggestions?

I love the very small class size in Jayden's day care center, expensive and far away though. I heard the Zenith in the HSBC building. not sure is good.

I want to go to work, too... but have to first adapt to the new envirnment. Take care when your hubby's away from you, and may be we can meet from time to time as we'll be in Sydney in Aug.

Hi to all mummy,

I have a long time haven't check the messages in this topic and need a bit more time to catch up. We arrived at Nov-07 and finally seem everything settled down. My big boy really enjoy his kindergarten life, and more happy than in HK. Maybe he has no homework and play all the times. My little boy now attend 2 days in LongDay, 2 days in Church Playgroup and 1 day in Gymraboo. I become very busy to bring them go and pickup them.
To the new mummy, just to want share that can find more pre-school/playgroup information from council website or local libraries. Depend on what subturb that you live, for example, I lived in Eastwood, I can check Ryde council website at http://www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/services/children.htm, there have many community services information. And at the library, I got a Community information booklet, this also contain many school/organization address and phone no. Hopes it can help.

That's ok, just a little help.

.~~ Jayden still baby talk too... hahahaa... talk a lot.. but most of the word.. I need to guess ga... hahahaa.....

City is good for work (my hubby and I both work in city) .. but not good for kids, not much space for kids to play .......

Only 5 mins drive from West pymble or Killara to Gordon will have supermarket, or 10 mins drive to Chatswood, 10 mins drive to MACQUARIE shopping centre supermarket ....

St Leonards are good as well... I was working in St Leonards b4 hehehee... but long time ago la... hehehe.....
