All Sydney mums,

Hi everyone, thank you very much for all your concerns and supports!

I am living in this country for 1 month, my daughter started to go to school on last Monday, the school put her in Year 2 as she is 7 and half years old (she missed half year in Year 2). The teacher told me she was doing well and assume she will be alright in the next term, that make me feel more relief!

My parents-in-law are getting better and have rest at home now, both of them have broken bones at the chest and the neck, the doctor says it takes about 3 months to recover.

For myself, I try my best to settle down here but it is not easy to do that, it is really a big change and a very tough time for me, I keep asking myself why I am here. My hubby is very busy and always came back home about 8pm, not much time to spend with him, also not get used to live together with his parents.

The stuffs in au is very very expensive compared to H.K., especially those household stuffs. Eating outside is expensive too even just at food court or small restaurant.

Hello Vanessamom,

It is great to hear that your in-laws are recovering well.

I know a lot of things seem very expensive when compared to HK.

Maybe you can look at alternative entertainments which are much more accessible - like Wentworth Common at Bicentennial Park Homebush - it is a great place to spend a few hours on the weekend if the weather is good. It has flying fox / trampoline, bike tracks, bbq, and lots of fun things for you and your family to explore. Pack a picnic and a blanket, then you can relax on a nice sunny day like the weekend just passed.

Keep well.

Dear sbandliz,

Thanks for the gd places for family time!

It's been a logn time not visiting here. I still wanna ask u more on VOIP. From PennyTel I got a phone no.(in HK), whenever I called the one, it shows 'network busy'. Then I asked my hubby to call the one in Sydney, voice mail only. I started to doubt whether VOIP is reliable.

For the router, can I use a 1 port modem from Telstra and then use a self bought router for VOIP?

And lastly, is the phone plug in Oz the same as the plug in HK?

Hi, all Sydney mums,

Í'm new in this topic as I just arrived Sydney last Saturday. I stay with my parent-in-law in Concord at the moment. Anyone lives nearby? I don't have friends in Sydney and would like to make new friends here.

I have 2 girls (7 & 3 yrs oild). The elder one will go to Y2 in late July after the school term break. i'm still finding a playgroup/child care for the younger one. The childcare here is very expensive.

Hello, sbandliz

Ths for sharing!

My husband is still busy to fix up all the furnitures such as bed, tallboy, bedsides drawer, desk and bookcases..... in the weekend. He couldn't take a day off during these two weeks school holidays, so we couldn't go to anywhere without him.

Hello Harris_ma

Although I just arrived here, I know that the rental is very high now, did your husband find out where to live after you and your son come over here? My hubby told me that Roseland is quite good. Keep it for reference!

Hello, vanessamon
I just have been in Australia for half a year! So I'm quite new here! I get a learner license right now and practice driving with my husband. (He get a full driver license so I can drive with him) In Australia, driving lesson is so expensive (about $45/hour) and I quite stupid for driving. I don't want to spend so much money for get a license!
So, take it easy! You will feel better after few months.
How is your daughter? Did she adapt the school?

yes I am taking driving lesson currently. It is $45 per hour, just like pro-jamie said.

I started from zero cause both me and hubby do not have license. and now you need to finish 120 hours of supervised driving here to get a provisional license. Driving is super tough...

I have been here for 5 months now. Yes it was pretty tough to start with. I don't feel home even now. Well, it is good to experience new things when you are still young, right?

Hello, Pro-Jamie

Wor.... it costs $45 a hour, really very expensive!!! Actually, everything is very very expensive when compared to Hong Kong, if I pay the same price in H.K., I can get a better quality on everything. My husband also have a full driving license, so I may practice driving with him.

My daughter is studying Year 2 now, she is doing well in school and know a lot of friends already. She get used to live here very quickly, as not much homework and no pressure at all.

How old is your daughter? Did she enjoy her school life here?

Be careful when you learn to drive with your husband.

As per SMH's article on 7th July:
http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/hard-lesson-learner-drivers-not-insured/2008/07/06/1215282652755.html

Your husband maynot be covered in case of accident.

This loophole in the CTP will be closed on October 1st 2008, but the law is not retrospective.

sbandliz,

Morning! Actually, I also worry about the accident when my cousin told me that I can learn driving which guided by a full driving licence person, thanks for reminding me the important thing. May be I will go to the driving lessons first and have some basic ideas of driving, and then practise with my husband, I think that would be better.

Hi Vanessamom,

I did study for the driving knowledge test (I reviewed their notes and did mock exam online). It is not difficult at all but you really need to do more exercise online.

I totally agree with you - the things here are crazily expensive. If you have a kid I guess it is very obvious cos stationary, tissues, clothes, food - everything are expensive. 4 pieces of porkchops cost me AU$8.5 (HK$60!!!!) 簡真發神經. I spent all my HK$70,000 in my first months (deposit for house rental, few pieces of furnitures, a small TV, transportation, mobile, meals and food),嚇死人.
