Charis has attended 2 playgroups in the past and will enrol on one at end of November. I have also signed up for one more playgroup about music at the moment but is subject to confirmation.

Dear all expert mami,

I'm interest in Phonics Kingdom & also want my son to learn it.
Would it a bit late to start now?

Because my friend gave me the full set VCD of 迪士尼美語. I started playing the VCD to him since he's 6 mths. But he never interesting in it. Normally, only play 2-3songs, he already walk away.

Till now, ashame that he still not recognize/ say A-Z..... (I also teach him ABC by cards, books & 積木)

Do you think I should try Phonics Kingdom?
Because I think it is useful for him to learn English in future. Also, I saw many mami pay a lot for Phonics lessons for their kids. So, I think it is good for my baby to learn early (but it is a bit late compare with yours bb).

Shall I buy the full set ch1-7 at once? (I guess it will be cheaper than buy one by one seperately).

Or buy ch1&2 first? Than buy the balance after he finish ch1&2?

Pls kindly advise yr valuable comment.

About迪士尼美語, is it the play along? Is it boring? Find out something your kid like first. I do not suggest you to buy the whole set of Phonics Kingdom at once as you are not sure whether she like it or not. Have you tried starfall?

I used Phonics Kids first. It is the sort of input. My girl got familiar with the letters after a few months. Then I used Starfall now after recommending by Flolimom. It is output training because I have to click the icon one by one. I have time to ask my girl to say after it in order to encourage her to speak.

sorry, missed to reply yr question.
Yes, it's play along.
Boring? so-so la. He would watch. But not too much concentrate. He always like sth not for education propose - such as 砵砵巴士, sesame street, Thomas. even Keroro (my parents' play to him).

When he watching, he doesn't like other kids being crazy on the screen / will not move himself to the follow the action (e.g: clap yr hand, trun around.....).
Because my 契女 (my fd's daugther who gave me the VCD) like it very much. When she was baby, I saw her that she will dancing, moving around, follow what the screen show......But my son never!?-( ?-(

首先多謝FloliMom email咗有關閱讀資料俾我,其實某部份我已經做緊!

近排重新再整理晴晴既圖書角,發覺我所買既書都係英文書居多,而且多數係有圖畫再配合生字。而中文書就少知又少,剛剛趁著商務有折,就買咗兩本中文童話故書書俾晴晴,諗住可以俾晴晴睇之餘,我亦可以講故書俾晴晴聽。但問題就係
1) 我講咗兩、三頁後,晴晴開始唔聽我講,要自己攞住翻書
2) 唔知係咪我講得唔動聽,所以唔可以吸引到晴晴
3) 係咪這個歲數,還未適合睇這些童話故事書
4) 我應該如何選擇中文圖書呢
5) 有乜野中文圖書比較短可以推介呢

It is never too late to start giving any learning to your son. The longer you hesitate, the later it becomes!

I agree with ptsamm. You can start with letting him see "Starfall" first. It is a very good channel to arouse his interest in letters. I bet your son will love it at first sight!

. You may consider buying the PK later.

Despite that the Phonics Kingdom is rhythmic, I reckon that it is boring because it has a very "regular" pattern to present to letters and words. My daughter is impatient with this "regular" pattern.

I will say that the Phonics Kingdom is a good stuff provided that your son likes it. For my case, my girl just loves the books and the letter poster very much. In this sense, it is worth buying to me. So it is really up to you!

I really admire yr abundant knowledge.
Thank you for yr advice & will let my son to watch Starfall.

I went GC last night to see Phonics Kingdom. Me & hubby also found it is quite a good learning stuff. Really had an impulse to buy it immediately.

Also, I got stronger attracted by the Flash card.
(Ashame to say that I only notice this today!)
Its theory is very interserting & good.
Today I spent the whole day to reading the websites about this, but found it is very complicated

Do you play Flash card to yr girl?
Can you sharing yr experience & feeling about it?

I think I will also try Flash card to my son (only after I fully understand it). But, i'm worrying because my son do not have systemic learning time. And I also face one big problem that my son is staying at my parents' home (I only go to see my son at dinner time after work). It maybe difficult for me to orangize Phonics Kingdom/Starfall & Flash card 3 times per day.

我知道唔應該都未做就話唔得.
The first thing I need to do now is explain to my parents tonight. Hope they can understand & give help during daytime.
You know 老人家思想 is different to ours. My father always ban what I suggest to do on my son. And my son ALREADY 被'種'壞!!!!

(Sorry about my bad English. I also want to type Chinese. But I type Chinese too slow. During office hour, it is TOO obvious to show "I'm oline" because of my typing 手勢 is much slower than usual.

我收到你的EMAIL啦, 不過好忙, 所以未有回覆, 吾該晒!
係呢個星期內, 我嘗試同女女講故事, 係一D圖書管借的硬皮翻翻書, 我冇硬性規定時間, 開此時, 當我見到佢有興趣囉D書玩的時候, 就開始同佢講, 講左一兩頁, 佢就不停翻書, 我就不再講, 不過有時感到她開始分心時, 就提高聲線講一D吸引翻佢注意的說話, 例如: "嘩, 你睇下, 書上有好大個波波" (當然書上真係要有波波啦), 哈哈, 又WORK 嫁, 咁佢又真係望翻住本書, 連續幾日的嘗試, 直至琴晚訓覺前, 佢訓吾著, 又囉書玩, 於是我就同佢一齊訓係床上講故事書, 今次係第一次可以一口氣完成一本書, 佢仲有睇住本書笑 tim, 雖然只是約十頁的硬皮書, 但我地已好開心啦! 不過Daddy就坐享其成說"係呀, 睇書習慣, 真係要由世養成ga!"

我一定要繼續努力呀!

另外, 我想問GC即係乜書店呀??

I also tried Starfall with Chun Chun. He had the same reaction as 軒軒, excited and could read along some characters and words. I also just tried A-E and a couple more the next day. Sometimes Chun Chun would lost his concentration and played with the mouse and other stuff on the table. But I think it is a good start.

Folimom,

You said Phonic Kingdom is a bit bored to Charis. Besides the reading of characters and words, does it offer some video with songs and dances played by real people? I found Chun Chun likes a DVD called "Baby Songs" by Hap Palmer very much. He follows the movements and yell out the characters. Is the Disney package offers similar things but in a more systematic way? Any idea?

Thank you for your compliments though I am too ashamed to receive them. I don't think I am that knowledgeable in pre-school education. I learnt from books/articles/pamphlets and other mommies, esp. BK mommies and am just trying my best.

You may observe how your son likes learning alphabets/words first after he watches Starfall before you decide to buy the Phonics Kingdom. I do think that Phonics Kingdom is good provided that you have time to watch the videos and read the books with your son regularly.

I don't exctly play flash cards to my girl in the way Glenn Doman recommends. I do buy his theories and like to adopt his principles though. If you are interesed in Doman education, you may visit 開心家庭網 for more information and visit 教育小組 to get more advices and opinions from other mommies. If you really want to start Doman education, I suggest you'd better read the series of books by Glenn Doman ﹝格連杜曼﹞first to fully understand his background and theories.
