Hi Laputa,
No, haven't bought any books for how to bring up kids, as I still seriously lack of pregnancy information. So, I will finish the book u recommended first and than I will start to collect info what I need to prepare for the new born BB and the stuffs I need to prepare for myself to the hospital....
I believe there is not much different from raising kids in HKG and Australia. Only that the kids in HKG are smarter as they are exposed to a lot of things. But, more space here in Australia for the children.
How many months you are in now????
Ah Ka
Ur company is good to you... mine one needs to have a solid evidence to prove your expected date of confinement and should submit the application of maternity leave 3 months before you start your leave.
So, the 'deadline' for me to submit the application is mid May coz I think I would start my leave at mid August (pre 2 post 8).... if I can choose, I want pre 0 post 10 indeed.
I would like to ask how to book these 產前運動班? I've asked the hospital (QE) and the nurse said only those moms who are referred by doctors will attend these classes...
Are they free of charge? I want to have some exercises... my husband walks to me every night coz he said preg women needs walking... and he said we would go to swim when the weather is okay...
but I think these classes are good too coz I can do it even when the weather is cold... he he
yip_paulina,
For the 產前運動班, you could tell the nurse or doctor in your next check up that you feel pain in the leg/back, and ask whether doing some exercise will help to release those pain. For public hospitals, the 產前運動班 is designed for mothers with leg/back pain problems, so, healthy one will not be referred. I read some books, it said it is OK to start doing 產前運動班 after 5 months (20 weeks), so, I have booked mine at 23w. As I check at PWH, PWH's 產前運動班 costs $100 for 2 lessons, each lesson lasts for 1 hour. NOTE - (1) I heard that we should bring the husbands to attend the lesson as well, since the 產前運動班 will teach the husbands how to do massage for the wives. (2) Remember to bring a book to take note!
I agree with MrsFung not to take 前0後10. There is a HK University research report saying that if you take less than 4w for before the birth, the baby will be shorter and smaller, as the mothers need to get more rest at the last few weeks for the baby to develop. So, the research suggested 前4後6.

I have signed up the 產前運動班 of PWH. Will take it at 23 week.
Books said mothers will be able to feel the 胎動 and bb心跳 around 18-20 weeks, be patient and don't worry. I remember you said this is your 第一胎, right? 第一胎 usually starts 胎動 later.
Next time, you could ask the nurse to see whether you could group all the bookings into one day, sometimes, if they have the slots, they will help the mothers to arrange the different checkings in one day. Since the nurses will not offer this "special service" by themselves, you need to ask.
我 mother also 有糖尿病,but I heard the nurse said that the OGTT (suger water test) should be carried out at around 28week. Why you need to go so early? Is it because you failed the urine test also? For your March 10 check, is it the full OGTT test? If it is the case, you'd better bring some water and biscuits with you. For a normal OGTT test, I remember the procedure is something like this:
(1) stop eating and drinking the night before the test around 11pm (you could drink little water if you feel thirsty, but only little)
(2) the sugar water test is usually held at 9am in the morning. First of all, the nurse will take a bottle of your blood.
(3) then, you will be given a glass of 750cc of sugar water. Remember not to throw it out (although the taste is not good), since you need to re-take it if you throw it out...
(4) you have to wait for 2 hours after drinking the sugar water before you will be taken the second bottle of blood.
(5) After the second blood taken, you can leave... which is around 11:xxam and remember you have no breakfast before, so, you would better drink some water and eat something before you leave the hospital.
(6) the nurse will call you if you fail the test to come back a day later and see the doctor.
欣欣媽~~CatCat,
There is a mother in either 3月 or 4月的準媽媽forum also said she failed the first 血壓 check, but after taking some rest, the 血壓 becomes normal. You could try to rest for a few minutes before taking the 血壓 on March 12.
For March 10, try to eat less 澱粉類 and sweet 食品 beforehand on March 9... this may help :-P Take care!
