Thanks very much for your information. I made a mistake. I checked again the Royal Mail. For 2Kg by sea, it cost about 9.8 pounds. Not really that bad.

Please let me know if you order next time when you re-unite with your cousin!

fyi,

By freight, shipping costs are calc with ref to volume;
vs by Royal Mail, (surface or air), postage is calc by weight.
We shipped just over 1000 books,
shipping / transport etc costs ~HK$3xxx.
(Can let you know exact amounts tomorrow if you need them.)

Declaration (to Statistics Dept) $43.20

Correction :
Total above costs = HK$4598.60 (not HK$3xxx)
(forex rate was then ~14.5332; nowadays it is ~15.375)

Total cost of books after redeeming book points = L1030.96 = HK$14983.18

Total no. of books = 1219

Total Misc costs / Total Book Cost = 29.54%

Possible that the culprit is a P5 / 10y girl.
Likely classmate of the mum's daughter.
Remember that girls are more mature than boys in many ways when they are small.
But if that girl can do all that at her age, and if I were her mum, I would have a big headache.

Things over in UK were arranged by my (ex-) cousin.
Once the cargo arrived in HK, the bills etc were faxed to me and I did the payment and declaration, plus got a van driver (brother-in-law of a friend) to get it out of the warehouse. Once off the ship, the cargo automatically gets transported to the Yuen Long warehouse. The real arrangements were just to get a shipping co to ship the goods (done in UK).

I told everybody that I didn't know how / what to do everything, and everybody just told me to pay $$$$$ as and when appropriate - that was all that was required.

For declaration of stat, just had to fill in a simple form in a counter in Dah Sing Bank in WC (one of the authorized places), got the code required for filling in the form through a tel enq hotline.

So it was easy, not difficult.
But needed time to get over the thought of not knowing what to do.
