Salami, I got it from the hardcover book shelf. They have lots of hidden treasures. I suggest you try CWB which has lots of hardcover treasures too.

written by Sam Mcbratney and illustrated by Anita Jeram - the same author and illustrator of "Guess How Much I Love You ".

Each night, Mommy and Daddy Bear tuck in their three beloved cubs with the same phrase, "You are the most wonderful baby bears in the whole wide world!" Well, even little bears are discerning enough to doubt hyperbole and so they question their mother's empirical basis for this observation. Her reply, "Because your daddy told me," mollifies the youngsters until they begin to question their own ability to measure up to the wonderfulness standard. The first worries that he doesn't have patches like the others, the second that she's not a boy, and the third that he's the littlest. They approach their father with the query, "Who is your favorite? We can't all be the best." Daddy Bear explains that they are, repeating how Mommy Bear exclaimed over each of them at their birth ("the most perfect first baby bear," "the most perfect second baby bear," etc.). Satisfied, the trio is able to drift off into peaceful slumber. The quiet, loving tone of the text is echoed in the muted shades of the watercolor-and-pencil illustrations offset by soothing cream-colored backgrounds. While this story will not be enough to put to rest children's basic insecurities and endless jockeying for their parents' most-favored status, it does inject some unobtrusive bibliotherapy into a deftly presented bedtime story.

Beach Day!
by Patricia Lakin, Scott Nash (Illustrator)

PreS. Beach Day! is an exuberant romp for the nursery-school crowd. On a sweltering day, four alligators head for the beach on a multiseat cycle, stopping at the playground and picnicking before reaching the ocean in time for a moonlit swim. Lakin's elemental text is just right for toddlers, and Nash's candy-colored spreads match the words' spare playfulness with uncluttered images filled with details that will tickle preschool funny bones. The rhythm and rhyme lose momentum at the end, but this will still win over plenty of preschoolers, whether they are heading for the beach or to bed.

5 starred.

The characters are human-like in nature which gives the book charm. Lionni captures the essence of siblings in the cute frog characters. The moral is easy to understand and something to remember for all ages, not just children. A definate must have.

by John Reitano, William Haines (Illustrator)

A very good EQ promoting storybook!!

With rhymed couplets and goofy illustrations, this parable attempts to teach that love looks beyond superficial differences. Reitano, an educator and speaker, asks, "What if the zebras/ lost their stripes,/ and some lost black/ and some lost white?" Would the zebras recognize their common identity, or would they begin to notice their new differences in color and start to fight? Would they move to separate lands, or would the young zebras be allowed to laugh and play together? Reitano raises the stakes with each new possibility of the choices the zebras might make. Though Haines's vibrant colors add warmth to the illustrations, the animals' human-like expressions are jarring. This simplistic tale about overcoming differences and achieving harmony overlooks the deeper ramifications of racism. Ages 4-up.

A really nice and meaningful story.

A class's new teacher, who leads the children in a number of very popular activities, turns out to be a gorilla.

(again!!!)

This one is a charming picture book for preschoolers on up through maybe second grade. One day a new teacher arrives at school. Dramatic irony kicks in; the reader can instantly tell that the "teacher" is in fact a gorilla, but the book's gentle humor comes from the kids in the story going along with the situation. Accordingly, they learn how to swing from trees and make a mess with art supplies and clang pots and pans for music. Along comes this principal, who informs the class that "there has been a terrible mistake" and that the *real* new teacher is here at last, having been sent to the zoo by mistake! Everything is thus cleared up, but the kids miss their "favorite teacher" and visit him at the zoo. Wonderful.

Super humorous! Indeed the old teacher does RESEMBLE the gorilla!!!

PreSchool-K-- Watercolor cartoons illustrate this bit of cumulative nonsense. ``Silly Sally went to town,/ walking backwards, upside down./ On the way she met a pig,/a silly pig,/they danced a jig.'' Sally and pig (upside down) meet and are joined in their walk by a dog, a bird, a sheep and (ta-dum!) Neddy Buttercup, who sets everything to rights. However, Silly Sally manages to get them all in formation whereupon they proceed to town following her roundabout lead. Bright double-page spreads carry the tale, forecasting each encounter. Sally, with orange corkscrew hair, a mischievous grin, and wearing ruffled pantaloons beneath her purple frock, appears to be able to coerce 'most anybody into 'most anything, and soon has the townspeople walking backwards, upside down. No moral, no underlying theme, no real story--just unabashed silliness.

This rhyming counting book about the sea .

A Kid's Review:
I like this book because it tells you how to times, 1 x 1 = 1, 10 x 10 = 100, like that. I also like this book because it goes from 1 to 10 and shows you sea life. And sometimes on the right side margin of the page you see part of what animal comes next. When you see a white tale, you know the next page is a whale, and if you see wings, you know the next page is a seagull.

Another reviewer's comments:
Joy Hulme's Sea Squares is a fun rhyming romp that illustrates the concept of squaring numbers. The rhyme has a definite rythem to it and the illustrations are superb. The borders on each page hint and what the reader will find when the page is turned. The gorgeous use of color in these seascapes delights the eye. I won't buy a children's book unless the illustrations are at least as good as the text. My children love the book and didn't even realize it was a "math" book. I highly recommend adding it to your collection.

5 starred.

Really quite good though pictures not very very nice.
