Re: 分享外國 或 台灣童書收穫

[size=medium]
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly (Caldecott Honor Book)

by Simms Taback
Ages: 4-8

It's humorous, with laugh-out-loud illustrations of the woman who just can't control her eating habits. Taback's collage pictures include brightly colored paintings with snippets of newspapers and other interesting materials, and Taback incorporates clever die-cut holes which add to the visual hilarity. Children will enjoy the colorful pictures and the poem, and adults will enjoy Taback's wry sense of humor.

Re: 分享外國 或 台灣童書收穫

Hi salami,

I've also got the same title of book published by Child's Play.

In this book, there's a hole in the middle of the lady's tummy so that you can see what has been swallowed by her.

My son loves this book so much!!

[size=medium]Can We Play : A Pop-Up, Lift-the-Flap Story About the days of the Week
by Mara Van Der Meer

"On Monday I asked Mommy, `Can we play?' `Not now,' she said. `I'm going to work, but on Sunday we can..." In Can We Play?: A Pop-Up, Lift-the-Flap Story About the Days of the Week by Mara Van Der Meer, readers turn back the flap to reveal the activities that can be planned for play day.

A little girl asks different family members each day, "Can we play?" All week long everyone is too busy, but each person promises to play with her on Sunday. Colorful collage illustrations, and, in one case, a letter in an envelope from her cousin the mail carrier, anticipate the fun they will have together. With her father she will practice ballet, with Granny she will "swing on a flying trapeze," and her aunt and uncle will pretend to "be pirates on the high seas!" When Sunday finally arrives, the whole family comes knocking on her bedroom door dressed in costumes, but she makes them wait until she is finished reading a tiny removable replica of the book. Ages 3-6

The small removable copy of the book itself is really cute. It contains identical contents (even the flip-flap on the last page). So... cute.

My son shows this off to his papa there is such a tiny book!!!

[size=medium]Mommies Are for Counting Stars (Lift-the-Flap)

A mommy is a special person. She knows just how to kiss a boo-boo to make it feel better and how to do hair-dos. When you need an audience for your puppet show, a mommy will always watch. Lift the flaps and see all the ways a mommy is wonderful. This celebration of mothers is ideal for Mother's Day and for sharing throughout the year.

[size=medium]Daddies Are for Catching Fireflies (Lift-the-Flap)

Daddies do so many terrific things. A daddy always gives you the best seat at the parade, he reads you bedtime stories, and he tries his best to fix your toys when they break (even if he doesn't always succeed). Filled with soft, beauti-ful watercolor artwork and lilting text, this lift-the-flap book about all the great things fathers do is perfect for young children.

Re: 分享外國 或 台灣童書收穫

[size=medium]Philadelphia Chickens

Sandra Boynton, long heralded for her menagerie of animal characters (Moo, Baa, La La La; Rhinoceros Tap), puts a fresh cast of singing, dancing critters center stage-from the titular boogying chickens to a tail-wagging "snuggle puppy"-in Philadelphia Chickens, a book-and-CD package billed as an "imaginary musical revue." The first 32 pages contain lyrics and illustrations, the second half of the book includes musical notation and additional lyrics for each song. An all-star cast, including Meryl Streep, Laura Linney, Eric Stoltz and the Bacon Brothers, headlines the musical recording, which features a variety of original show tunes penned by Boynton and composed by Boynton and frequent collaborator Michael Ford.

[size=medium]Rhinoceros Tap : 15 Seriously Silly Songs

Before there was Philadelphia Chickens, the #1 New York Times and Publishers Weekly children's bestseller with 319,000 copies in print, there was Rhinoceros Tap, the collection of seriously silly songs. Now Rhinoceros Tap returns in an all-new package to mirror Philadephia Chickens, with a spiffy audio CD. Written and illustrated by Sandra Boynton--whose books have over 6 million copies in print--and with music by Boynton and Michael Ford, the same team that created Philadelphia Chickens, it's a read-along, sing-along, dance-along, oink-along collection of truly delightful children's music.

I've just got these 2 book+CD set from paddyfield. Lovely silly songs with lyrics and nice illustrations shown in the 1st half of the book; and notepad with musical notes of songs shown in the second half of the book. Children can play the songs by their own if they can read notation.

[size=medium]
Bed Hogs

by Kelly S. DiPucchio, Howard Fine (Illustrator)
Ages: preschool, 5-starred

It's not only a read-aloud story as well as a laugh-aloud. Fantasic illustration! The rhyming text is full of funny descriptions of the Hog family as Little Runt tries to get more room in the bed. You can almost feel Little Runt's frustration over not being able to fall asleep. When the "not-enough- room" problem is finally solved, Little Runt discovers another problem.

[size=medium]
The Day the Babies Crawled Away

by Peggy Rathmann
Ages: 4-8

This is an enchanting book that is sure to delight young readers, as well as their parents. While the parents of five certain babies are competing in a pie-eating contest, their children crawl off to chase butterflies. Only a child, wearing a fireman's hat that suits his position as a rescuer, takes notice, and when his attempts to alert the parents fail he goes off in pursuit. Rathmann's inventive illustrations–silhouettes with beautifully colored skies that show the progress of the evening--are richly detailed. Readers will have a fun time spotting the small details, such as one baby who consistently appears hanging upside-down, and the caterpillar and frog that accompany our hero on almost every page.

[size=medium]
Mole and the Baby Bird

by Marjorie Newman, Patrick Benson (Illustrator)
Ages: Preschool, 5-starred

Mole is taking a walk when he finds a baby bird that has fallen out of his nest and has no mother. Mole takes the bird home and decides to keep him for a pet. As Mole's mother and father keep pointing out, "It's not a pet bird. It's a wild bird." Mole finally realizes that Bird would be happier if he were set free.
A sweet story with expressive illustrations that tugs at the heart strings!

Introduce you a Love Story for children. Not only the kids, parents would love it too.

[size=medium]
Porcupining: A Prickly Love Story

by Lisa Wheeler, Illustrator Janie Bynum (Illustrator)
Ages: 4-8, 5-starred

It's a "sticky" situation when you're a porcupine looking for a wife. A clever story and vibrant illustrations tell the "tail" of Cushion, as he serenades one prospective bride after another. Children will quickly get the "point" in this amusing love story with a happy ending which will "stick" with readers for a very long time.

[size=medium]
Hey, Little Ant

by Phillip M. Hoose, Hannah Hoose, Debbie Tilley
Ages: 4-8, 5-starred

You see an ant. It's just an ant, so you decide to squish it. But what would you do if that ant looked up and started talking to you? Would you talk to it? Would you leave it alone? Those are a few of the questions one young boy asks in this humorous children's book written originally as a song. Conversation and illustrations alternate between the boy's and the ant's perspectives.
It was funny on both kid and adult levels.

[size=small]Report on French Trial Class at 'East Hill'

Hi, my kid finally tried out the EH (the nickname invented by me only... hee...) French playgroup this evening. All my hubby, my maid and I together took my kid there. Supposedly student is not to be accompanied by adult. I did let my kid stay with the teacher by himself.

The class started at 5:30pm and ended at 6:30pm. It had free play, object recognition,puzzle play, dough play, conversation and computer learning in French.

The teacher is a nice native French lady. For new students, she taught with 80% French and supplemented with English (around 20%). Since the other student in the class (also aged around 2.5 yrs old) was absent today, my son received 1 to 1 tutoring today.

Surprisingly, teacher asked me whether I know French coz my son seems to understand some French and even told 'pomme' is apple. I told the teacher that I know "I love you" in French i.e. jet'ame. Brxxny Bxby dvd really works, ladies!!!

Comments:

1. Very spacious and clean campus
2. Teacher and staff helpful and nice
3. Better if learning could be done with more children around (instead of 1 to 1) in the class
4. Summer programme (starting 4 Jul)fee is acceptable ($166 per class on average)
5. Good and convenient location (Admiralty MTR)

For moms interested to let kids learn French, it is worth trying. Trial class fee is HK$200. You can get free trial class by coupon application using the form provided in the May issue of 'parxnts' magazine published by Lxtus.

For all students, they have an intranet system to support home teaching/study.

I have enrolled my son for the summer PTG + French. Each lesson 1 hr. For 5 weeks.

[size=small]One Question

Do you ladies wrap the paperback books ?? How do you protect such books from damage by the kids?

My method: wrap all the 4 corners of the paperback books with a piece of plastic tape, placing diagonally over the corner. Then, the book will always look good with no wrinkled corners!! No need to wrap the whole book ga...

Pls share if you have other better method to keep the well-being of paperback books at home. :mrgreen:
