Did you buy "Hello Red Fox"?

I bought it at Dymocks a couple of weeks ago. I've tried very hard to follow their instructions and still cannot see other colours!!!

Goethe (1749-1832) is celebrated as a great German poet, novelist, and philosopher. But in his eyes, color theory was his most significant achievement. In 1810 Goethe published Farbenlehre, naming three primary colors--red, blue, and yellow--from which all other colors could be made, and claiming that each color had an opposite, or complementary, color. But how does this relate to well-loved artist Eric Carle's Hello, Red Fox? Well, it's like this. On his special birthday, Little Frog's friends--Red Fox, Purple Butterfly, Orange Cat, and others--begin to arrive at his house for a party. Imagine Mama Frog's surprise when she perceives Red Fox as green, Purple Butterfly as yellow, and so on. Each time, Little Frog gently points out that she simply hasn't stared at each animal long enough to see his or her "true color."
At the beginning of the book, readers are instructed to stare for ten seconds at the boldly colored animal on the left side of the spread, then transfer their unblinking gaze (more like glaze at this point) to the blank white page on the right. If they do that successfully, a shadowy image of the animal appears in its complementary color! Young kids may think this is magic, but actually the phenomenon taking place between the eye and the brain is called "simultaneous contrast after-image." No matter what you call it, it's amazing and fun to behold! The story itself is simple and deliberately repetitive, appealing to very young children, but the optical illusions will be a hit with all ages. Carle's bold collage illustrations are perfect for this playful spin around the color wheel, which ends with the green Little Frog turning red when Mama Frog kisses him in front of all of his friends. kittylock, I bought it from PageOne (TST). I read Panda Bear Panda Bear What do you see to my son this morning. He loves it.

I don't buy the whole series coz some titles are not particularly good. Some are out of print.

I have this book too "Hello, red fox". I can see the contrast colour image just following the instruction. BUt.. it is far tooo...... difficult for very young kids la.

Two more favourite books of my son :

Very very nice drawing and lovely 'action words'!! My son becomes crazy about 'sloth' (which 'hardly moves at all') after reading the book. He always show me an upside-down look of himself like a sloth 樹懶!! Very funny. He always tries to 'strut' likes a rooster.. Ha....

.[size=medium]Dinosaurs Roar!by Paul Stickland, Henrietta Stickland

"Dinosaur roar, dinosaur squeak, dinosaur fierce, dinosaur fast,..."

Ages 3-5. Dinosaurs are the gimmick here, not really the subject. The subjects are, first, antonyms--such as above/below and weak/strong--and then lunch. The paired dinosaurs, in a goofy array of pastels, are almost all smiling, even when the rhyme insists they're "grumpy"--so when they settle down to a lunch with (and not of) each other, the end is satisfying. The pictures and swingy short verses will make this a good group read-aloud, even for the very young.

My comments: Very cute dinosaurs, excellent for young kids to learn antonyms (whether verbs or adjectives). The book ends with a very rhymatic phrase:

[size=medium]gobble gobble nimble nimble munch munch, scrunch (a dinosaur even eats up the letter 'h' of the last word 'scrunch')..

Highly highly recommended!!!

I didn't buy "Eric Carl's book". Too expensive la!!!
I just borrowed them from the public library.

I've borrowed Mr. Red Fox too. That's really interesting, you need to concentration on one side of the picture for ~1 min, then move on to the next page to find the color changed.

Dear Kittylock, can you find all titles of Eric Carle? Ordering from Amazon or even thru PageOne (similar to web order from Amazon actually!!) is too expensive though some difficult-to-find titles are available there too.

I ordered some Eric Carle books from yesasia before it stopped selling children books last year. And some of ttiles were bought from Page One, Dymocks and British Council bookshop la.

I will not buy from amazon cos the delivery charge is terrible.

Yes, Dinosaurs Roar! is really interesting.

I've ever seen a teahcer using this book to demonstrate storytelling skills to parents at British Council last year.

Very funny, I bet young kid will love it!!

What about the actual cost+delivery of the 4 titles you listed ?? How much discount? Does not sound very '抵買' bor!?!?!?!

Do you know that you can buy bilingual versions of some titles from TW? They separate two languages into two parts. And they have VCDs or CDs to go along. Very good quality and relatively cheaper in that way.
No such things in HK at all. Sigh!!! Even have, will be dearer!

They are sold in sets bor. I bought from 奇蜜kimy.com four months ago. You go and have a look la. Something like 'Learning English with Eric Carle'

[size=large]10 Little Rubber Ducks by Eric Carle

PreSchool-Grade 1 - Carle takes an actual incident, when numerous bathtub toys fell off a container ship and floated to various places, and distills it to create a marvelous counting/concept adventure. The story opens at a factory where assembly-line workers are painting details onto bright yellow rubber ducks. The toys are then loaded onto a freighter destined for faraway countries. During a storm, 10 rubber ducks fall into the sea. Each one floats in a different direction - west, east, north, south, left, right, up, down, this way, and that way - and encounters a different animal (a dolphin, seal, polar bear, etc.). The 10th one meets a mother duck with her offspring and bobs along with them to their nest. The ducks all bid "Good night" to one another with a "Quack," while the newcomer says "Squeak!" (Children can press the page to hear a squeak.)

Another masterpiece of Eric Carle. Another favourite of my son.
