Can mums here share your experience on how to read to your baby/toddler?

Do you read the story word by word as it's printed on the book?
If it's an English book, would you tell the story in CHinese first?
If it's a Chinese book, would you tell the story in Oral Cantonese or following the words in the book?

ans: if the stories are simple, I will read every word I point to my kid. they will follow suit when they pretend to read.

Do you read the story word by word as it's printed on the book?

ans: if there are many words, I will read in Cantonese (for chin book). I avoid reading complicated sentences to my kid. So choose books that suit your kid first.

If it's an English book, would you tell the story in CHinese first?

Ans: no need unless it is a very very special story that worth translation.

If it's a Chinese book, would you tell the story in Oral Cantonese or following the words in the book?

Ans: for complicated story, yes. for very simple story, I will read word by word.

I have accidentally bought ORT extended stories (stage 3) at Singapore. Just so-so. But I am curious to know the background info of the ORT characters.

Are biff and chip really twins? I don't see so wor!!

'custardcupcake' is a little girl who shows up here from time to time. She is 7 years old and her English is quite good. Since you said that your girl is 7, I just think about 'custardcupcake' and ask if she is your daughter.

I went to ETC last year. I met Connie, the woman in charge of ETC. She is really nice lady. She introduced those 2 interesting items to me at that visit. She told me that those items would be coming to market in mid 2005. Since then, I keep an eye on those 2 items. In fact, I am interested more on item #1, which provides more background info of the ORT characters. When I told my kids that the full name of Kipper is Christopher (which I learned from Connie in that visit), their eyes and mouth got so big. You see, they are so nosy. They looked as if they have discovered a big secret. So, I want to buy one to cheer them up again. I want to see their pure and innocent look again.

OIC. But unfortunately, my girl is not custardcupcake. Her English is not really that good. She is just an ordinary girl who studies in a traditional school. She loves English more because English is in fact much more easier than Chinese. Since she loves English, she is used to guess the meaning whenever she meets words she doesn't know. But one thing is she loves to write (in fact just some scribbles). She told me that she wants to be both an author and a ballerina. So, I just tease her that she may choose to be an author to write books on ballet when she is not so successful at ballet performance.

You got tonsilities a year ago?! Again this time. It hurts so much. Take real good care of yourself. Sleep some more and drink some more water.

BTW, we haven't heard or seen 'fxpc' for quite a long time. She is a wonderful mom. And she is so helpful and resourceful.

I am a trully faithful fans of her. I read her every recommendation. It's her whom introduced the tremendous and cheap Mainland book world to me. I have really missed her! :cry: :cry:

Like you, I am a loyal "fans" of fxpc too.
I started to buy kids' books like mad ever since I read her posts re books from China which were such good bargains. Now I think I have suff stock for about 2 - 3 yrs.

I believe all moms here are loyal fans of FXPC. I like her way of 'sharing' -posting facts and pictures (no 讀後感) which are really helpful to viewers. Personally think 讀後感 is something really boring and unnessary to me. That's why I don't read long-winded & unresourceful 讀後感 postings about kid-books. :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

She does show up or log in from time to time ga. Don't worry, I think she is just too busy to share good books and too busy to chit-chat cha.

Since you and your kid are ORT experts, may I know if you will read the 'Teaching Notes' before reading ORT with your kids? I note that the notes are more for teachers.

Btw, whey kevin reads ORT aloud, does he use different sounds to represent diff characters when reading dialogues?

Have you asked him why he likes ORT so much?

I'm also interested in the Talkabout cards. btw, I only know that Biff and Chip are twins jar (I know because they're studying at the same class of Mrs. May) ....dunno Kipper is at the same age as my son ... want to dig out more interesting info of them la!!

We're not ORT expert but just very fond of reading their books.

Frankly speaking, I seldom read the teaching notes beforehand as I don't have much time to do this. Actually the notes are very detailed and make me sleepy. I will only read those notes when I've already read the stories thrice and want to know what can be added in reading the same story to my son.

Yes, my son likes using different tone if there're dialogues in the para. He does the same when he plays with his various favorite Thomas engines.
