As regards Aarrdvart, it has a long tongue, pouting snout, pig nostrils and most importantly stays up at night coz the termites (its food) come out at night!!!

Actually can borrow from lib. At the last few pages, they tell some facts on those animals mentioned in the story. Total 12 kinds of animals!!

This one is really gorgeous for small kids. Each font is 1.5-2.5 cm tall. Good for kids!! Very attractive pictures!! Fonts and pictures are on either left or right hand side. Very clear and easy to read.

Bluestar, I am fond of ALL ANIMALS.. not only pouting aardvart la..

I read 25 books to my son this whole day!!!!

I borrowed Room on Broom from the library. Good story!! You can wait for the mainland Chinese version series I introduced earlier.

Re : Chin standard - I think from what I heard it is as good / bad as other faan shu engl as major medium schools. Fees much cheaper than Kai See (Creative ??) or Kai Kei. In my opinion, whether a change to School A or School B would be a change to the kid anyway so whichever school won't matter. My recommendation is of course the least expensive school la, for cost effectiveness.

We went to shop at several places today : Cosco (a warehouse), Target (a supermarket), and Borders (a bookshop) besides a few other Oliver-type shops and groceries/fruiteries.

I bought from Cosco :
DK Eyewitness (I think, the books are now downstairs and you know I have dementia), 3 books per pack (1 title per book : weather, jungle, river, bugs, etc) x 6 packs, hard cover, $11.99 per pack plus 8.25% sales tax
2 Dr Seusse : one fish two fish red fish blue fish (?), are you my mother $5.99@ + tax
4 staged DK Maths workbooks, $8.99@ + tax
Pooh bear Nature and Animal cards $4.99 or %5.99@ (the ones you find at KMK and Idxx)
A Big Science Book $8.99@? + tax
Thomas song book (the type with electronic touchpad at side)
2 DVD Scholastic sets (3 DVDs per set : chrysamthemum, how do dinosaurs say goodnight,... // chickee chickee boom boom + 2 forgot names) $16.99@ + tax

some EC books but more expensive than Scholastic Club
the Green, Red, Blue readers sets, Bob sets

Will be going to B&N tomorrow, and my cousin said the Grammar Tales should be available from another Educational xxxxx (bookshop) which specializes in selling academic chicken soup and workbooks eg phonics.

Seems there's not much bargain books at Border. The best place for book hunting is still Amahsaur!!

Yes you're right. But then I have difficulty in logging into BK.

I disappeared from this thread for nearly 2 hours cos I couldn't get into BK itself. But I could easily access sites like Mingpao, Zuji, Oriental Daily, etc. So it is either the Dinosaur's fault or BK's fault. Can't figure out which.
And I worried whether my previous long post could show cos the Dinosaur hanged up after I sent the post off amd I couldn't re-enter to check.

For R U My Mother, my copy is a greenish hardcover version. Is it the same as KMK, or is KMK's a small board book version ? The boardbook version I later found at Target and was slightly cheaper than Cosco price.

No need to worry about my baggage allowance ma. According to the airline :
Two pieces of checked baggage of which the sum of the greatest outside linear dimensions of the 2 pieces measured together does not exceed 273cm (106 inches); provided that outside linear dimensions of each bag does not exceed 158cm (62 inches). The weight of each piece is limited to 32kgs (70lbs.)
So for 3 ppl I can get 70 lbs x 3 x 2 = 420 lbs !!
Am buying for the next 2-3 yrs ma.
My best buy was Polo bear bedsheets, twin flat (for 36" beds), at US$25.xx after tax for 3 pcs ($9.99@ less 20%, original at US$19xx@). Pillow cases were US$22.xx per pair so I didn't buy and will cut up one of the flat sheets to make pillow cases.
Another was a boy's shorts, white chino material, at $3.95@+tax.

My worry now is :
1. How and where can I find carton boxes which will hold 70 lbs without the bottom falling out, despite having RC Biggest Book to hold it.
No need to jup carton boxes - we will be going to Office Depot to see if I can buy suitable boxes. Or will double up the boxes and wrap it with packaging tape like a mummy. Cannot use the Ah Ma carton boxes - too shallow although base is wide enough to hold RC Biggest Book.
2. How and whether I can move the boxes home, even with help from my fat hubby and maid.

I've got the air tickets by using my cousin's credit card and calling the 24-hr United line. Very funny - I found a cheap (US$2xx@) acceptable flight combination from United.com, but the price quoted by United tel service line was more expensive (US$3xx). But in the end could get tickets at the original cheap & acceptable price, by asking whether there were $2xx flights at very similar times were acceptable. The ticketing guy said they did not have access to the prices on United.com. ?-(

Anyway, not many new books (un-mentioned under this thread) were available.
Wait till I go to B&N and that Educational Tech Wkshop or something tomorrow. Of course I still have time to go again, but you know my memory for prices .....

Of course my aunt complained that I bought too much. Not her pocket, so hehe.
We usually go out for dinner here, cos nobody to cook and my aunt broke her wrist a few months ago. For lunch either we go to yum cha brunch, or have doggie bags / instant noodles at home. And for snacks we have lots of fruit ---- peaches, nectarine, cherries, golden delicious apples, granny smith apples, bananas, plums (golden, red), oranges (in form of orange juice); corn (hope not the super sweet type which I hate, but the glutinous type which US farmer use to feed the pigs

), tomatoes. And pineapple ham + bread + milk for breakfast. Yummy yummy. (Better than fish balls to me. :mrgreen: )

But need to be Ah 4 so not enough time for me to munch munch the fruit. My son had a fever just before we came and still has a cough now - drinking too much cold water with ice here, refuse to stop.

No not just wake up. It is 3:30 am, not in bed yet. The dinosaur occupies the only tel line for dial up, so I can only log in after midnight otherwise no calls can get through !!

I had already forgotten that chrysanthemum was in the MyDear VCD set. No worry la. I intend to keep ga ma.

I am buying such a lot cos I won't be coming to SF in the next 2-3 yrs, so need to buy enough for the interim.

Borders has quite a lot of books, at least triple the size of Ocean Centre Swindon. But lots of parents / kids around, parents reading books to kids (today is Sunday here), and kids get books out to read. Afterwards they just leave the books on the floor. I stepped onto a few without knowing. And the prices were not attractive. I did not buy a 2nd copy of 20th Century Children's Treasury, just took a look at the price for ref. And found that Borders prices at the suggested retail price. Only when really sale, e.g. a lot of books were buy 3 get 4th free, but titles were not attrative to me.

See if I find better cheaper books at the other 2 tomorrow.
Ah Ma doesn't really hold the books, they just act as middleman and source them at cheapest price gwa. Othrewise why would 2 orders come in 5 boxes.

I dare not go to other topics for fear that I cannot log back in.

Yeah... you did it! We can all see your post here.

Did you bring "Red/White/Blue" bags along? Or will it be available at China Town? Think it should be strong and big enough (and cheap of course) to hold all your stuff. Just need to inner-lined by carton (cut out from carton box) for protection during flight.

Have you visit the Lego Land yet? Think it must be marvellous!

Let your son take more rest and warm water la. Stop hunting for 2 days and he'll get well very soon.
