Marie Yuen, Pls go to Cheung Sha Wan. Still a lot of books. No worry. I saw a few copies of Eric Carle books left. And, one Little Critter left. I think the sales will replenish them. But as kittylock said, the sales never know what books you want to find.. Ha...

Go there as most books are found there.

Re: 分享外國 或 台灣童書收穫

MarieYuen,

The KMK Mongkok shopkeeper said they replenish books every now and then.
No Maths Start but yes 1 or 2 Little Critter in Mongkok, 1 or 2 of the Readers which Gloria found in Cheung Sha Wan.
If you have time, better go to KMK Cheung Sha Wan, after reading what Gloria found there.

Re: 分享外國 或 台灣童書收穫

Gloria,

The area of a "dot" should be smaller than the area of a "spot". So, I think "spotty" is more fit for describing a dog.

Hope it answers your question!

Re: 分享外國 或 台灣童書收穫

Mayumi,

Now I know the meaning. Spotty dogs really mean those dogs have spots. Dotty dogs however means mad dogs which run and rush around.

Thanks.

I read the 'Spotty dog' and 'Dotty dog' in the following book:

"Too many dogs"
(Step-Into-Reading, Step 1)by LORI HASKINS (Illustrator)

The book showed both spotty dog and dotty dog withs spots. The former has white spots and gray background. The latter has gray spots but white background. So.. this confuse me the meaning about spotty and dotty!! Good lesson for me too!

Re: 分享外國 或 台灣童書收穫

Nice Books at kmk:

"Footprints in snow" hello reader 1

"The ABC Mystery" by Doug Cushman
Successive readings offer plenty of opportunity for budding detectives to spot new clues. Ages 3-7. Each page shows one alphabet which tells a clue in a detective story. Animals are the 'actors'. The detective is a badger.

"Footprints in the Sand" (Hello Reader! Level 1 (Paperback))
by Cynthia Benjamin, Jacqueline Rogers
sentence used in " someone [a verb] home" showing how desert animals go home by jumping, darting or swinging....etc.

"Elmer" by David McKee

"Monkey see Monkey do"
by Marc Gave, Jacqueline Rogers (Illustrator) -hello reader 1

Re: 分享外國 或 台灣童書收穫

A really funny book

[size=medium]Froggy gets dressed

Here are comments from readers:

First of all, frogs hibernate in the winter. This is a fact of life. No one disputes this. But this winter is different. Froggy wakes up in his warm toasty bed, takes one look out the window and shrieks with delight, "Snow! Snow!... I want to play in the snow!". Froggy's mother attempts to dissuade her little one from this course of action, pointing out that frogs are not snow-playing creatures. Froggy remains undeterred. He dresses hurriedly and flops outside. Whoops! Froggy seems to have forgotten his pants. So he runs back inside, puts on the missing item and runs outside. Whoops! He's forgotten his shirt and coat. You see where this is going. About the time it becomes clear that Froggy has forgotten his underwear (cue the laughter of underwear obsessed kids everywhere) he's too tired to do anymore playing in snowdrifts. And so, it's back to bed he heads.

You want alliteration in your picture books? Well brother, you've got alliteration. One of the great draws in "Froggy Gets Dressed" are the sounds made as Froggy dresses. Listen: "So Froggy put on his socks - zoop! Pulled on his boots - zup! Put on his hat - zat! Tied on his scarf - zwit! Tugged on his mittens - zum!". It's twice as much fun to say aloud as it is to read to yourself. But Jonathan London is only half the genius in the Froggy world. Illustrator Frank Remkiewicz deserves just as much credit as well. Froggy is such a likable protagonist that it's hard not to read the book over and over just to watch him as he leaps, hops, dresses, undresses, and generally has a fine ole time. And his mother, though she tells him that frogs sleep in the winter, is mostly amused by his antics. She carries a bemused smile on her face as he runs hither and thither in the snow, donning various articles of clothing. Clever children may even wonder why it is that Froggy HAS all this winter clothing if he tends to sleep during the winter. Such children should be immediately deemed geniuses and given full scholarships to Yale. Ditto adults who say the same thing.

Re: 分享外國 或 台灣童書收穫

Some more funny books:

[size=medium]There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly

Readers' comment:

This book is a must have for families with young children. First, it has wonderfully original illustrations. You can see how the old lady and the creatures in her stomach look after each new meal. The colors are bright. There are many details so that new things are discovered each time the book is read.
Secondly, the story is just disgusting and scary enough to catch the attention of the most distracted child. The idea of a lady swallowing bugs and animals is fascinating. The fact that she dies is also very interesting - but not depressing - to kids.

[size=medium]Once Upon a Time

[size=small]This is a very good inter-active book. Children can make a unique story of their own from various choices of content and ending. Really interesting!!

Readers' comment:

There is something unique and special about this book. As a volunteer who reads one-on-one to preschoolers, I have observed that, when choosing from an array of age-appropriate books, the children, boys and girls alike, invariably choose "Once Upon A Time" as the story they want to hear first. They love being able to make the choices that will make "their story" unique. They expand their vocabulary as they learn to identify unicorns, dragons, and tree houses. They can add to their early reading skills by naming the letters or even reading the words on the cut-out pictures. They learn that when the story is over, it's best to return the cut-outs to their well-marked places so they'll all be ready for the next reading of the story. And, perhaps most importantly, the story becomes a backdrop for thought-provoking conversations such as, "what would YOU wish for if a "magic duck" granted you three wishes?"
This book goes far beyond its fairly simple story and concept. I wish there were more interactive books of this genre for this age group.

Re: 分享外國 或 台灣童書收穫

[size=medium]Yo! Yes?

Readers' comments:

"Yo! Yes?" is a unique picture book that uses only 31 words, usually no more than 2 on a page, to tell a whole story involving two boys who discover they can be friends. Beautiful in its simplicity, the book also makes good use of Raschka's expressive art style.

My comment ---> meaningful story, simple words, good to be used in chidren role play

Re: 分享外國 或 台灣童書收穫

[size=medium]The M&M's Brand Counting Book

[size=small]This is an interesting math book! But you have to beware of children having a tooth decay after reading!!

Readers' comments:

This is such a fantastic book that encourages children that math really can be fun! I've read it to several different classes in the past few years (K and 1st grade) and they get such a kick out of using M&M's as math manipulatives. They are so eager to learn, count, sort, and eat with the M&M's.
I think it is wonderful that there are so many different skills taught within the book. Everything from counting to basic addition and subtraction. Sorting, shapes, and colors. Kids, parents and teachers can get it all in this book while learning within a fun environment!

The M & M's Brand Counting Book by Barbara Barbieri McGrath is a mathematical workbook that uses an easily identifiable object to children, M&M candies, as a math manipulative. The book uses text as well as drawings to illustrate the mathematical concepts being taught. Readers learn to count from 0-12, addition, subtraction, basic shapes (circle, square, triangle), grouping objects in sets, and the six basic colors of M&M's candies (brown, yellow, orange, red, blue, and green).
