Tubbies,
I&IMOM: IC. eggegg center is right in Ma On Shan, near my home, called FUN FORT. It divides student into different age groups, and eggegg is in K3-P.1, doing Playway 2. Activties largely concentrate on listening and oral based on the workbooks as this age group is rather young. The center says older age groups will do something more, like reading and writing. I have no information about similar courses in Shatin as i have already spotted one here.
ESF summer camp: from mid-July to mid-August. 3 hours per day (am or pm), 5 days a week, and lasts for 5 weeks. But you can join only one week. Last summer cost $2100/week, and eggegg joined only 2 weeks because of SARS and late summer holiday.
Because of demand, there was an added option, every Sat for 5 weeks (again 3 hours). LAst year topic was circus, and eggegg learned something about circus.
This summer I plan to put her for the whole 5-week, likely the last chance for her to go to playgroup, as p.1 is pm and hard to organize playgroup in the morning la.
In my opinion, ESF is much more pro la, as it just reuses its own staff and resources, that's right a little bit expensive than playgroup. Also many more kids to train eggegg team work and EQ. Students are divided into different age groups. Last year ranged from 4 (eggegg is one of the smallest) to 13 something.
Besides, during school terms, ESF also have english programs: Fall, Winter and Spring terms. Each lasts for about 3 months. You can choose 2 days/week, 1.5 hours/day during weekdays in the afternoon, or 3-hour session every Sat. Eggegg had joined the weekday sessions of the Fall term. But we find it is too tired so we skip the winter and spring terms, waiting for the summer term.
Later I will find the EFS website for you so you can see what it is.
Yes, agree with you--I concern more about the HKCEE and HKAL. I am not that greedy to get all 'rockets' in HKCEE, just enough to fulfill the requirement for university. Sometimes, I find 6A and 6B end up in the same university, a strong reason for me not to push too hard. I am lazy ma. BEsides students' own ability, a good school with better resources will help to get good results. I will say both good government and private schools will have the same satisfactory cert. result (maybe my demand is low). Of course, not 100% la, as some (minority number) students are really not that type. As to whether government schools do better, I don't know. Maybe yes or not. But you may find that in recent years, those smart kids from private schools will choose to go overseas (have $ ma), instead of taking HKCEE here, and so there is an impression that the private schools is not able to compete with government/subsized schools recently.
Honestly, I don't want to go to private school (costly), but there is no 'fair' way to get into dream government/subsized schools. This government is really......
