Your information is very helpful indeed!
I have placed a day 5 \'early\' blastocyst yesterday. Doctor gave me progesterone (oral and virginal) to take everyday since. My problem is I have been having constipation since 2 days before, is this anything to do with the medicine? Is there anything I can do to help as nurse has advised not to eat anything that stimulate the intestine...?
Besides, doctor mentioned he retrieved 20 eggs out of 25 follicles on day 0. It turned out only 4 survived until yesterday (2 early and 2 morula). Is this figure a rather low one for an aged 30 woman? I have PCOS.
Hello villahome,
The oral and vaginal progesterone should not cause constipation. I think it may be anxiety causing constipation instead; maybe you are deliberately avoiding fruits and vegetables in these few days? Try to have them back in your meals and also do things that can help you reduce your stress and anxiety.
PCOS explained the suboptimal egg quality. Usually when a woman has too much a quantity, quality is compromised. Just my own experience that young women tend to get pregnant "easier" even when the embryo is of average quality. Do you have the other early blastocyst and the 2 morulae frozen for later use? The result (4 out of 20 eggs survived to day 5) is acceptable and reasonable. Do you know how many of the 20 eggs were fertilized, what is your hubby's sperm like? These also affect outcome as well.
Dear villahome,
Now with the extra information, things are brighter!
You have 13 mature eggs with 11 of them fertilized; and out of the 11, you have 4 "usable" embryos. This is a very good result; usually, in couples with good prognosis, we expect ~1/3 of the fertilized eggs being "usable" by day-5. Hope I will hear good news from you soon.
So I got back the fertilization and aneuploidy screening result. Details below:
1) retrieve 9 eggs, 8 fertilized
2) day 5: 3 early blast transferred. One is 5AA
3) day 6: one 4BB frozen
Pgd:
Only 2 are normal! One of them was transferred and the other one is frozen one.
Questions:
1) is 2 out of 8 a bad percentage?
2) that means 2 abnormal are already inside my body! If pregnant, may need to do something or the bad one usually just stop growing?
3) overall, is my number good or bad?
Dear jlin123,
The pgd center you went to is a little strange in the sense that they would offer you pgd but transferred embryos before knowing the results. I would never want to do that. Besides, do you know how many chromosomes were tested for, i.e. a few or all 24 chromosomes? Will need to know this number first before attempting to answer your questions.
They check all 24 chromosomes. Also it\'s my own intent to transfer before knowing the results because I don\'t have a good history of frozen embryos. Usually they can\'t survive the thaw.
Dear jlin123,
Ok, some centers have a quick turn around time for D5 or D6 ET so that you did not have to risk multiple pregnancies or yet another miscarriage. But now that what\'s done is done, let\'s hope for the best!
Back to your questions, 2 normals out of 8, not bad at all.
1. It may sound unreal, but I have seen cases with no normal embryo out of a total of >5.
2. Usually the abnormals will stop growing, but some will implant & cause early miscarriages; yet some can give live births (eg Down syndrome babies).
3. I hope your 5AA is the normal embryo! After getting pregnant from transferring a normal embryo, the chance to live birth is much higher, or the chance of a miscarriage is much lower.
Have you tried blastocyst freezing (ie Day5 freezing) before? I hardly have any blastocyst not surviving the thaw! Your 4BB will be fine, should you need it in the future.

Dear cutecutetown,
thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. yes i tried blastocyst freezing once as that's the only time out of 3 i actually have frozen one. And that one time failed.
I just got the hcg result back today (13dpo or 8dp5dt). It's 23! My doctor ask me to repeat the test in 2 days to see if it goes up. do you see any success cases that start with such a low hcg? i had 8 before which result in miscarriage. i hope this nightmare won't happen anymore. the only different sign this time is i have no bleeding or any discharge at all! no pain either. panty all clean. i don't think progesterone/estrace will delay my period as i always get some pink/red bleeding while on medications before pregnancy test.
any advise?? i really don't know what to do next if this one fails. would the IVF stimulation actually hurt the body if i do it over and over?
Dear jlin123,
You are definitely making good progress! An hcg value of 23 by the 8th day after embryo transfer is a good value; it is not low at all. However, you do need to repeat in 2 days and be cautiously optimistic.
Your previous hcg of 8 was from a D3 embryo, although the checking day/embryo developmental stage was similar to this cycle. I used to run hormonal tests and there is no absolute value you should achieve on certain day. What is critical now is to see if the value continues to go up; at this early stage, the value should about double every 2-3 days. Since you don't find any bleeding or discharge this time, I would treat it as a good sign!
My feeling is that you don't need another ivf cycle. Stay well :)

Summary:
4/3: hcg 23
4/4: some brown and pink discharge in morning! So I bed rest just to play safe. No more discharge since late afternoon.
4/5: panty totally clean for whole day! Hcg 61.
Dr ask to repeat test 4 days later. So is it low number still?? I hate it when it\'s so unclear still. Help!!
Dear marblecake88,
I\'m very sorry to hear that. This happens occasionally, not a lot. Let\'s see what the blood test (hcg) say. Did you take your 破卵針at home?
Dear jlin123,
Your number is not bad at all. Don\'t get yourself worried over the hcg number; it is still (very) early in the pregnancy. The absolute value of hcg is not as important as the trend of its \'doubling\' every 2-3 days. At the same time, you don\'t want to see too high the number because in that case, you may be looking at carrying twins.
While you are keen to get your next hcg tested, try to bed-rest as it should help. Just be a king and enjoy your time doing nothing but being served. Some jm\'s suggests watching TV series, while some enjoy reading. You have all the reasons to do the things you enjoy most for at least the next few days; treasure it
