Thanks very much for your contribution here. I really appreciate that.

I agree we are all addicted of buying books. However, I am curious to know if you or your kids have completed reading your books stocked up. For my case, I believe they haven't touched 90% of the books yet. Because they are keeping on reading a few books which are their favourites. Moreover, quite a volume of books are in simplified Chinese, they need my company to read through them. So, the pace of 'consuming' the stock is much much slower than my pace of buying new books.

Does my phenomenon above happen to you as well?

廸士尼神奇英語 is Disney Magic English but now they have 13vcds (part I) and 6vcds (part II). There are many illegal version selling in Shenzhen in $50-90.

昨天我收到货的，我先检查了几张，都有中英文字幕选择（还有简繁体选择），语种也都有中文、英文、粤语选择，要在看正文前先选择好再进去，前面一位网友说只有粤语，估计是没作选择直接"play movie"了。但是我只是检查了几张，并未全部检查，画面质量还不错，至于是不是正版我就不清楚了。以上仅是个人见解，希望能给其他人做参考。

The same applies with me + my kid + the books I bought for him.

Which is why I buy any book he may be interested in, including the Bob the Builder set which he likes but should be quite simple, and in time he will graduate to more difficult levels.

Need to draw his interest away from toys, to books, very gradually.
And I always need to 伴讀，otherwise he just flips to "read" the drawings and think of the story only without really reading the words / characters.

I sometimes feel like a cassette tape player, or more updatedly, a VCD player. If a book is long-winded, really 讀到口水都乾! :tongue:

Boy of just over 6y.
I'm still trying to build up his Engl. so I mostly buy Engl books., unless the simplified Chin books are on useful / interesting subjects.

My son like the 兒童自救手冊type of books a lot, and these are actually vvvvv useful for preparing kids for attending P1 interviews for DSS/Private primary schools, if you are considering what Chin books to buy for your son.

A very very good set. My son (2yrs) have finished the first three levels. This set of books is very humourous. You will have some fun (even as an adult) in reading its. Nice printing and quality. Excellent contents.

This set and Ready Readers 機靈狗 is 難分高下！ They are two of my favourite english sets (not to mention my son).

I keep on rotating the books on a weekly basis. Encycl + 童话故事, 绘本 + English story books.

Only for the Ready Readers/Magic English Sets etc I would progress on until my son has a bit of understanding. I consider this as 教材。

I also have some stocks "unconsumed". (giving me the excuse that he is still small and when he is bigger, he would read them

)

As my son is still small (2+), so he is not interested in the wordings of the books at all, he will only look at the pictures. He never follow the books with CD, he would turn to other pages. So I am his CD player

.

SO sometimes I think the tone and the mood that I am reading have a big effect on his interest to read the books. I need to read it in a more interesting way to attract him.

OK need to go to Idxx for my treasure hunt.

兒童自救手冊

These are sets of small books, with inserts (drawings), presenting situational questions :
what to do if you get lost while shopping with parents,
what to do if a stranger talks to you
what to do if you are alone at home and a stranger knocks
what to do if you are alone at home and the water pipe bursts / leaks
what to do if you find that a mad person is in your way
what to do if you find a stranger stalking you
etc

I have seen several different sets published by different bodies, in simplified Chinese, at Ixxx.

There is another set in more detail, containing even some useful titles for later on in primary school :
e.g. what to do if schoolmates are naughty and harass you
