In 2006, my GP referred me to see the Subfertiltiy Unit of Kwong Wah Hospital, it took more than 1 year to get the 1st appointment, I went to see Dr Alice Wong in Feb 2007, we started to line up for the ivf queue, we will not get the ivf treatment till Apr 2009.... Shit!!! It's just too too too long, we could not wait for anymore, got referral to see Dr Mao in the Union hospital, and started my ivf in last Apr. I started the first injection in May, however, after 20days injections (suppression + stimulation), doctor told us that I was not responding to the drug, we had to stop this cycle and rest for a few months, try again in Sept. I was totally collapsed in the clinic and burst into tears immediately.
We were totally lost, and found that Dr Mao did not explain to me very clearly (Later on, the more I learnt about ivf, the angrier I am with dr Mao as he did not check my FSH before the treatment), so we decided to change to see Dr Tung, she was very good and explained to us very clearly, she asked me to do hormone test on Day 3 to see my FSH level. The result was not very good, my FSH level is a bit high on my Day 3 (it is 14, the limit is 11). I had never thought that I had problem too, all the dr told us that we had to do ivf because of my husband's poor sperm quality.
Dr Tung told me that there is nothing western dr can do with my high FSH. After searching the web, I decided to try Chinese medicine and acupuncture. My acupuncturist told me that it seems to her that acupuncture is very effective in improving the hormone level. After having acupuncture for one month, my FSH dropped to 8 and around 7 to 8 since then, I am checking my FSH every month. Then, I tried another ivf in Dec, I was on very high dosage, 450IU, got 8 eggs this time, however, only 2 fertilized, Dr Tung said my egg quality was still not good. Eventually the cycle failed again.....
I went to Kwong Wah hospital to the Tue just for a normal follow up. I decided to tell Dr Wong the ivf results I did in last Dec. Her reaction shocked me. She said my response was very very poor, she had to check my FSH, if it is higher than 10, then they will not give me any treatment…. Her words were sooooo mean and harsh, she said “ don’t waste your money on this matter if your FSH is high, it is the same as throwing the money to the sea (拋錢落咸水海). The more ivf treatment you do, the less eggs you will get… and the egg will be worst. You got 8 eggs last time, they should be better one, now the left over eggs inside you are just worthless (蘿底橙). My heart sank deeply, so difficult to hold my tears… I was talking to myself, “ Dr, I know my situation, you don’t have to scare me like this….
And step me down like this 這樣踩我….”
I was very upset, I did not know the limit is 10, I though it is 15.... I regret I told her the truth.... but the end of the day I have to tell her when I have the treatment next year anyway.... they said they will call me if the result is higher than 10..... I am very lost now..... if it is higher than 10, no hospital will help me to do the ivf, I can only do it in private hospitals.
I have been waiting for the public line more than 2 years, now I might not get the chance to do it.....
