I have two girls studying at St Lorraine, I agree the image of this kindergarten is very $$$ and very focus in external exams. However, in term of $$$, if you compare with the kindergartens which have similar teaching philosophy and standard, you may find St Lorraine is not expensive as those kindergartens are talking above more or less 20-30% more. Given St Lorraine will still have government subsidy for local stream, I should say cheap. In fact I still choose international stream.
Regarding external exams, they are not compulsory and those are very popular exams that parents may want to send the kids to in order for the preparation of primary school. I really do not find any pressure from school as they do not force the kids to enroll. Sometimes I urge them to open some extra classes such as drama, but the principal says they do not have enough time and teachers to do so.
On the other hand, extra fees are not that much. They are talking about books and daily tea break. In fact, daily tea break is not compulsory, you can have your kids to bring snacks to school.
Yes, pictures are expensive, but optional. No minimum.
Teachers are generally very good and care about the kids. Since we are working parents and seldom see teachers in person, teachers (both native and local) will call us up periodically (once two months) to update the development of my kids and we sometimes talk more than an hour.
Honestly speaking, different kindergartens have different strenght and weakness. I am not saying St Lorraine is better than True Light or any kindergartens, parents should understand what they are looking for in order to choose a suitable school for their kids. Like me, I plan to send my kids to those primary schools in Kowloon Tong or HK Island, thus I choose St Lorraine as they are more focus in English and may be more well-recognise by those target primary schools as St Lorraine is run by the same group as Stanford and York in Kowloon Tong.
Anyway, free feel to make comment as parents are looking for good and suitable school for their kids.
