Dear Mommies,

just wondering if u care about the big power lines (like a tower) in the neighborhood when purchasing a house ...? let's say within 1/2 mile to 1 mile from the house.

what i'm talking about is something like this:

If it's too close, then no good. But if it's 1 mile, maybe it's far enough then? But then I guess it depends where. (I don't have clue on how 1 miles distance is like if it's by the hill without other things in the middle) I remember on the way driving to Gilroy, I can see those power lines by the hill and there are quite a number of houses by the hillside. I would not want to live there if I have choice. Not good for health.

the closest high-voltage power line is about 0.5 to 0.7 mile from the house. that one is the closest one in the neighborhood.
also, it's closed to Hwy. 85 where there're a whole bunch of high-voltage power lines along way. however, there're about 8 subtramission lines between the house and the closest high-voltage power line on the freeway 85.

Hi, long time no talk. I think it is not a good idea to live nearby high-voltage power line. There were hearing about built a power line near Monta Vista High School at Cupertino in 1 or 2 years ago. Based on healthy, saftey issue, it was banned to build.

For me, if I really really like that house, I may not care about a tower & some power lines .5 mil away. But, if the house is just ok, I may shop around again because think about in the futhure when you want to sell the house, those potential buyer may have the same concern like you & limited the numbers of potential buyer ... just worry about not too easy to sell it in the futhure.

good to hear from u.

yeah ... don't understand how come they don't care about the health of the kids. actually i've visited a private school (a very nice one) which kindergarten playground is right below the big power line (tower). and the school staff showed me that paper to proof that it's safe and they claimed that the inspection company has very high standards.
there's also a big power line about 1/2 mile from the blue hills elementary (in saratoga but within cupertino school district). there're big power lines closed to some other public and private schools too.

also, my friend's brother who worked for PG&E said that there's no proofs that it's not good for health and that i shouldn't use the hair-dryer if i'm really concerned abt the big power lines.

actually my husband felt the same ... as he kinda liked the house (good price in that school district, relatively new in that area, nice floor plan and huge lot with new lawn). however, i would remodel the kitchen and 2 bathrooms and replace the roof if we decided to buy one, and that might cost at least $130k.
my husband thought it's ok as long as it's (big power lines) not too closed to the house. however, he won't make an offer unless i want to, coz he's not gonna take any consequences if i blame on him later.
