Cats and dogs might have 弓型蟲. That disease would affect your baby very seriously if you were pregnant. However, prior to pregnancy and the disease was caught, you would entitle to have 抗體 against the disease. Your baby would not be affected by the 弓型蟲 even if you were pregnant. So it's better to catch the disease before you pregnant. According to my doctor, this disease is not common in HK, but in European countries, nearly all pregnant women have to regularly check up on this disease, since it is very common in those countries. To avoid catching the disease, you must not touch your animal's 便便. So during my pregancy period, my dog's poo poo is handle by my husband.

Do blood testing of your own will be fine. I had done it before because I was living in the UK a few years ago and had a dog at home during that period. My result was borderline. That means I might have caught that disease before but not totally affected by it. Since the disease would only be caught by dog's or cat's poo poo, my husband was responsible to handle my dog's poo poo during my pregnancy period. Anyway, don't worry about it too much, cos this disease is not commonly found in HK (according to my doctor).
