Thanks. The medi insurance I bought in Hong Kong should be worldwide applicable, as said by my agent. However, I just concerned whether the medicare provided by Oz gov't is complete enough that allowed me to cut the current insurance. So, any suggestions?

I recommend you to check if your 香港的醫療保險 cover Australia medical expenses first!
It is hard to say. In general, medicare only allows you to use public hospitals. In these days, public hospitals have limited resources (not enough bed, nurses, doctors etc).
If you are going to stay in Australia for a long time, I would suggest you to get a health insurance in Australia. It includes maternity services as well. Also, most of the cases, Aust Gov will pay part of your premium any way. You'd rather start using the private health insurance sooner than later, or there will be surcharges after 1 (or 2?) year after obtaining your PR visa. It is pretty complex. Check on the goverment web site for details.
However, the premium of private health fund is getting more and more expensive. I am paying $180 (for the whole family) a month now compared to $150 only 3 years ago.
Which private health insurance you bought? Is it very popular for people to buy at Medi-mdf (I forgot the name)?
Ths!

Thanks a lot. It's a little bit complex as you said. I have a little bit confusion. Why would I be charged for subcharge if I miss the purchase in the 1st (and 2nd) year time after obtaining PR?
And, as you mentioned, the premium for health fund is really significant.

The surchage that I mentioned is actaully called Lifetime Health Cover (LHC) loading. This only applies if you join a private health fund. Check this out. This loading is like once you are over 30, you might need to pay extra % on the premium. There are conditions that you don't have to pay the extra % - join the health fund within 1 year after obtaining the PR visa. For details, please check the government website. I might be wrong.
If I am not wrong, it is like if you are 40, you will need to pay an extra (40-30)x2% = 20% of the premium then. So, if you want to join the health fund, you'd better join it sooner than later.
For my understanding, the one year period is started from you obtain medicare card, not PR granted.
You will need to provide your health fund a "Letter of Eligibility" issued from Medicare to prove you are within the first year period.
However, if you are under 30yo, Lifetime Health Cover is not applied.
