1. short battery life -> Yes, but you can buy a spare battery.
2. movie w/o sound -> Partly correct. If you play back through the DC, no sound. But if you download the movie into PC and play back, it has sound.

When I was looking for a replacement, one of the requirement is to take video @640x480 to take 'snap shot' video of my BB, and FX7 does not fit this requirement.

But if 640x480 is not a requirement, I'd chose FX7 instead of EX-Z55.

Finally I chose Canon IXUS40, 2'' LCD is large enough, response time is good, photo is good (but no manual control is a draw back). In some shops, the 'hong' goods costs less than 3K, already including the 128MB SD card.

But I would suggest u to buy a 512MB or 1G fast SD card to fully utilize IXUS40.

My 大頭照 is taken with IXUS40 macro mode (<3cm?)

Could you please share with me why you prefer FX7 but not EX-Z55? I know FX7 is with anti-shake feature. Any more pros compared with EX-Z55?

As far as I know, FX7's movie use "Quick Time" which is not convenient for uploading to the web. Please correct me if I am wrong.

My current DC is with 5.0 mega pixels, in your opinion, would it be a little stupid if I buy a new DC with only 4.0 mega pixels?

The lens of FX7 should be better than EX-Z55. I've read some not so good comments regarding Z55 (can't remember where). The anti-shake could be handy in some cases, esp night shot.

If you don't need 640x480 video, FX7 should be a nice choice.

Quick Time can be converted to MPEG quiet easily (I use Movie Maker 2, also to reduce the size for Web posting)

I've enlarged a photo taken with S45 (4MB pixel, with normal compression only) to 12R and IMO, the same quality as those taken by SLR. Depends on your needs, I think 4MB is good enough for daily usages. However, if there were a 5MB version of IXUS40, I might brought that instead of IXUS40

You could try Portrait mode (Press FUNC key and then select the 'head') or macro mode.

But don't expect very good result as this is only a point & shot.

Casio EX-Z55好似是用陶瓷鏡頭，機身可以更小。

其實我都睇左幾部....

NIKON COOLPIX-5200
SONY-W1
PANASONIC-FX7
CASIO-Z55
不過我覺得而家買500萬像素比較好,價錢又沒差多少,不過我本人會覺得CANON比較好,CASIO我爸爸買左,D相放落電腦好像無咁靚
