I shipped two cars from hk to aust in Aug 2009. The freight chg is HKD24,000 for a 40 ft container.
The customs clearence, customs duty, GST, etc is AUD4,000 for 2 cars.
However, the average cost per car is a lot cheaper when shipping two cars together and the above costs do not include the modifications, inspection, registration expenses of the cars.
1. there is no concession on duty for the import of vehicle (regardless you are new migrant or not)
2. for valuation, you will have to supply your purchase record to the customs. However, if they do not satisfy with the purchase value (since used car in HK is a lot cheaper than in aust), they will request an aust valuation.
