Angry! Hire a Indonesia maid?!!

I hire a Indonesia maid who will finished contract with her boss early May. Submitted document to agent last Wednesday and supposed everything will be in process. Just rec’d a call from agent that they did submitted docu to Indonesia Embassy but only available to pass others docu to Immigration end Apr/ early May. Coz the passport of my maid was hold by the other agent who helped her worked in HK in 1st time. Ridiculous, I did not know it will keep by the agent instead of maid/ her employer. I already inform my existing nanny to work with us till mid May. My God! The agent ask me to negotiate with my nanny to see whether she can help us till end May. Is it the real story? Anyone who can share your experience with me?

想問你呢個印傭如可請番來的? 是否經而家辦手續的agent 請呀?

印傭好多時護照是由agent keep 的. 雖不合法, 但是是存在的.

但幫你搞手續的agent 無理由唔是最開頭問個工人passport 向邊度, 而做到一半先話本passport 向工人的第一間agent 處. 因為冇passport 佢地應該process 唔到文件的. 至於呢個印傭passport 一定可取回來, 但可能要比些少錢個agent 吧. 希望你能順利搞好手續.

**另外, 工人轉用agent, 照理做開, 冇理由本passport唔向自己手, 都唔同你講囉.

照我所知, 大部份印傭passport 係 agent 手上. 佢哋 renew contract, change employer 都有很多手續, cost$$$$, more complicate than hiring a bun bun.

Thank you so much. First, I did not aware their passport problem. The agent who help me just mention that they cannot ask the other agent to get back my maid's passport. They will ask her existing boss to discuss with the 1st agent in order to get it back.

My cheque was cleared that I just check my bank account. I feel uncomfortable. On the other hand, is there any reason why the 1st agent keep her passport (i.e. finance.....)? Am I worry to much? My husband ask me to get back the payment and find other agent to find the other maid. Seems not easy.

The 1st agent usually keeps the Indo maids' passports for a very simple reason - if the passport is not held by the Indo maid, the maid and employer MUST pay them for services (contract renewal, new contract with new employer) and cannot change to another agency.

Maid + maid's passport = $$$ to the agency.

你而家的工人能否延期做下去? 這樣你就可以等工人到.

但呢間agent service 真是好差. 因為我幫舊工人找到新僱主的時侯, 佢己提醒我一定要有工人PASSPORT 及舊的正本合同先可做到的. 你AGENT 提議的辦法是可行的, 叫現有僱主幫佢取, 我上手工人都是我幫佢向agent 取回passport, 分文不收.

若你想取回payment, 應該都可以, 因為是agent 不能依時給你有工人用, 但問題要追討, 若佢地唔自願付, 你只能從小額錢債追回來.

Thank you so much. Finally, my agent told me that they mix up with others. They will send all docu to immigration dept tomorrow. But I still worry! Is it truth? It is the 1st time I hire maid. The one who helped me is Chinese and lived in next block.

Hire domestic helper is not easy?!!!

BTW, May I know what I should be aware? FYI, my maid will not back to Indonesia in coming year. She may go to either Macau or Lo Wu in order to obtain another year visa extension. Guess her existing employer will give her money for air ticket.

若你AGENT 那樣說, 你只好聽從吧. 但當IMMIGRATION DEPT 收到你的申請, SUPPOSE 有個FILE NO. 可以比你的. 你追著你的AGENT 要. IMMIGRATION因為一般審批時間約4星期內. 你若想加快, 你可加一封SPEED UP LETTER, 說明情況. 佢地會酌情處理的.

你第一次請工人, 注意的事項可多著, 何況你呢個LOCAL 完約, 比你更熟.
1) 一定比一份家規你的工人 (例: 不能借錢, 開工時間不准講電話, 不能置BB單獨, 不可隨便出外, etc,etc.)
2) 比份WORK SCHEDULE 佢
3) 工人放假的出門口同返屋企的時間規定 (我自己就是8:00 - 8:00), 唔可以遲到.
4) 出糧要簽收, 有戶口更好, 同佢過數, KEEP 番晒D入數紙
5) 放假的假期表要簽收, 証明放左假
6) 仲有唔好expect 工人有經驗, d野應該ok. 開頭都詳細講一次你要求, 大家慢慢適應, 咁會容易相處.
7) 做錯野要馬上指正, 唔是以後要改正好難.
8) 工人會常常試僱主底線的, 要堅持自己要求.

或者你再POST 出來問, 呢度D媽咪好樂意回答的.

其實請工人唔難, 比齊文件, AGENT 盡責, 基本上冇問題. 但好工人真是難求. 希望你找到一個滿意的工人.
