I had a bad experience of doing so (not using an agent).
Firstly, It's very time-consuming to prepare all sets of documents. You have to get the standard contracts from the Immigration. Fill up all the information. After that, send the contracts to Philipine for maid's signature. Then send to the Philipine embassy HK office for approval. Afterwards, you have to send the stamped contract together with a number sets of document to the Immigration again. Also, you have to ask the maid to prepare her medical check-up report, qualification documents... ( you may get a checklisk from the Immigration Dept)
An agent can help you to resolve lots of troubles. They would handle everything. After all, the costs would be cheaper. More importantly, if there's any problem during the application procedure or when the maid arrives, the agent would have a responsibility to handle. And if there is any dispute between you and the maid, it will be better to let the agent to warn the maid.
From my experience, if the maid does not have to pay the agency fee (their own costs to get employed), they would not treasure their job.
Anyway, I've fired that maid after a 5-month employment. It's really a poor experience.
Total agreement to IsaacMa !!
