Hi, mums, can you what subjects are taught in Primary Schools (Year 1-6). & do the kids have HW each day? Do they have text books? Specially those in high primary years.

We are in HK at the moment & I have to apply a primary school for my kid. We will return to Sydney a few years later. I like an IB school in HK which is very relax compared to most of HK schools. This IB school has not much HW or not even text books. I really worried if my kids are able to catch the OZ edu.

Can anyone tell me about the primary school info in Sydney?

The subjects taught in Sydney primary schools are: English, Maths, HSIE, Art, Sport.

Music , Science and Second Language (some schools only).

There is not much homework, about one A4 piece of paper per week, but it depends on which school you go to.

Btw, what is an 'IB' school?

IB "International Baccalaureate" is an international education program nowadays being recognized in many country, a lot of international schools in HK adopt or shift to this program not only because of the program itself but also the recognition in many country such as the US, UK, Canada and Australia...

The IB program does require a lot of hard work when one gets to higher grade in high school, my son used to spend at least 2 hours everyday in homework and projects and one of his classmate's parent even complained the overloading of homework while for primary it is much relax and less homework.
