I've booked a bed and breakfast in UK, they only accept either PayPal or direct overseas remittance. Seems it's not difficult to open up a paypal account. So I want to explore about it. I searched that most ppl in bk mentioned usually the seller pay for the fees, and no fees associated if pay by credit card. But I have some questions after reading their PayPal fees schedule:
1. Quote: If you use your credit card as the Payment Method for a Personal Payment, you may be charged a cash-advance fee by your credit card company.
Unquote
Anyone has experienced using credit card to pay overseas merchants? Did your credit card issuing bank charge you cash advance fees?
2. If I choose to use bank account to pay, and PayPal only accept HKD account. Is it I will be charged with:
a) Interbank transfer fees from my bank to PayPal account
b) Since I need to pay by GBP, then PayPal will exchange it to GBP. And that's the only commission I need to pay PayPal.
3) Please share with me what are the fees if paying by credit card in foreign currency denominations?
4) The accommodation owner told me there's no charge if I choose 'Personal' rather than 'purchase' tab option, then 'Personal other' option when paying. Is it I need to select "seller" to bear the associated PayPal fees when entering a money sending instruction?
I called them already. But I also wish to know real experience . If paying by credit card, anyone experienced that card center didn't charge cash advance? PayPal told me I have to select who pay for the 3.9% charge, my counterpart emphasize to me no charge if I select personal. May be he isn't aware of such charge. Did anyone been charge for using credit card to buy things overseas?
