As far as I know, my bun bun is applying to Canada & she got an interview already (I think at least 2), I guess by phone.
Last night, she requested me to let her go out for application of ATM (banking service for easy taking out of money). I think this may be an excuse to ask me to let her out.
Later, she said she want a leave on next Thursday?! How come, I need to work, how can I let her to have a holiday, as I have 2 kids ...
All these, I guess her application to Canada may be in final stage. I know she apply it on June of this year...
Anyone can help? Tkssssss..... I need to hire a new one now ????
I hv the same case w/ u b4. My maid gave me 3 weeks notice and I can't do anything, I hv to let her go.
Don't hire maid w/ high qualification anymore, my agency told me that 70% maid w/ such qualification only treat HK as a stepping stone, they only want to do to Canada to work. They can earn at least double as in HK, so who will want to stay in HK.

At first, i think it is not easy for her to apply the visa and need quite a long period for approval. But finally it is very easy for them to apply as a baby-sitter, from application to approval, only 1 month for my maid's case - she said she has a sister live at Canada and her sister is the employer of her (i don't know this is true or not). At final stage, she even need us to give her a recommendation letter to prove she is working with us and main job duties is take care of the kids as the baby sitter. After the visa was approval, she want to leave asap, but at least she need to give you 1 month notice.
For my case, we agreed with each other that she can leave immediately without any compensation, becasue i don't want her to stay at my home anymore as she will not do well for all the work you need to do for this 1 month.

what you said is true that my maid's qualification is quite high as she is the kinder's teacher and she has the degree of the kid's education.
