How old is your child? you can consider 'Step into Reading' - there are many levels. I bought Level 1 & Level 2 through this site www.ngatinggroup.com.hk
For Level 3 & 4, you may need to call & check with the company.
:-P
I've checked with some moms that Magic Tree House are also independent stories (with same actors) & adventrous type. Say, one story is talking about Titanic but the story ending is an happy ending. Another one is talking about going to the pyrimad age, very interesting.
If the child is very good at reading books, then can try at about P.1 level.
also check at this site & ask them for a full list of the Magic Tree House.
I am finally reading a Jonie B. Jones book & I found it's very funny & interesting. But I need to read it first before I can tempt my child to read it too. (P.2) I think if she starts to read it then she would have the motivation to read the rest of it as this series is about JOnie who is a sort of 'naughty' girl, actually not really naughty but she has a lot of funny thoughts in her mind. Children will easily accept her as she is innocent & humourous.

My child's classmates has this set of books but I think in general it's too hard for P.1 unless the child is very good in English.
