Are you PR or Citizen?
I think it really depends on your individual situation.
e.g.
1) where are you currently living
2) where can you get some help from your family
In my case, I am canadian citizen. As I have lived & worked in HK for the past few years, I gave birth in HK. My baby still get canadian citizenship.

My wife and me are PR, living and working in HK
最後都會定居加拿大.

就係煩惱BB應該在加拿大生, 還是在香港生.
香港出世, 就可以容易拿居留權同回鄉証. 但係唔知可唔可以過番加拿大拿居留權.

I have posted a few articles before, I gave birth to my daughter in HK too. Please check below, I hope it can help you.

I think this is a really good topic. It's really a hard decision of giving birth in HK or in Canada. Of course everyone has to think of what they need first. For me the HK passport is just an add on to your child, there are really alot of concerns that we have to think. First of all, is there any other reasons other than HK passport that you want to give birth in HK? For me, don't mind to tell all moms. I got sexually assulted many years ago that made me can't put anything other than penis into my virgina. I can't even do any prenatal check ups when I was pregnant. That's why I need to "cut open" to give birth. In this case, I have to go back to HK private hospitals to give birth (general hospitals in Canada and HK have to do natural labour, so I have to go to a private hospital in HK). Second thing is the $$. Since I was working in HK when I was pregnant and my company's medical plan covers basically everything including hospitalization so that will save me a fortune. So for $$ reason, you'll have to think and see if your family can affort to pay all that amount as you can give birth in Canada almost $0 cost if you were a Canadian citizen. Third is the time you need to spend in HK. If your husbund works in Canada while you go back to HK to give birth, will he be there for you cuz that's the time you'll need him beside you the most. You'll have to go back before your tummy hit 28 weeks (airlines won't allow you on board if your bb is too big), then after giving birth you'll have to stay in HK to recover and mean while you'll have to help your BB apply for the Canadian citizenship and passport and also you don't want your BB to be on the plane when he/she is too small cuz it's not very hygenic on the plane. You know infants will get infected very easily, if someone on the plane is sick and spread out, your BB will get sick easily too.

I gave birth to my BB in HK. But luckily i was working in HK at that time and the company's medical plan covers basically everything. I only paid $50 for a bed for my husbund to spend a nite w/me in the hospital that's all. I gave birth in "Yeung Wo Hospital"(the one in Happy Valley). I remember the package for 6 days and 5 nites Caescarean is approx $55000HKD, then the doctor that helped me "cut open" is $15000HKD, for my BB's doctor while my hospital stay was $10000HKD, my BB needed to stay in "light box" for 3 days which is $1000HKD/day. Since my BB is a girl so she doesn't need to "god bao pei" i guess for a boy will be a little bit more. All of those are just for the hospital stay not including the cost for prenatal check ups if you see a private doctor. I went to both private doctor (approx $400HKD/visit)and the government prenatal health centre(free if you are a HK resident).
I like to give birth in HK cuz I can choose to "cut open" and also I can help my BB get 香港居港權身份 and 回鄉証. It's always better to help your BB gain more cuz if your BB grow up and decided to go to HK or China to work it will be much better.
Right now our whole family moved back to Vancouver. In order to help my BB get her Canadian passport. I first have to help her apply for her citizenship which the process will take a year or so. After you have applied for the citizenship, they will give you a receipt and with the receipt you can help your BB get a limited validity passport (but you'll have to have the official itenary of the dates that you will be travelling). If you dont' have that they might not give you the limited validity passport until your BB gets the citizenship card. My daughter was born in July 2004 and we moved back in April 2005 so they mailed me my BB's citizenship to my house in Vancouver. After you have received the citizenship card, you can help your BB get a Canadian passport.

But PR 同 Citizen會唔會有分別.

i think it shouldn't be a big issue cuz I think your child will be under you, once you've become a Canadian Citizen, your child will automatically become a Canadian Citizen too. But for sure, I think you better double check with the Canada Consulate for details. 我老公都係，但冇declare leaving resident, 我聽人講話囉passport就ok,但囉公民証好麻煩...有冇人知會點架呢????

一般程序係點架呢???

Hi ShaniceBB,
It is not 麻煩 to get the citizenship card in Hong Kong, but just takes a long time. The Canadian Consulate office will tell you that it will take 6 months, but in actual fact, it took us 4 months to get it. You can then apply for the passport if you want.
To apply for the Canadian citizenship card for your BB, either one of the parent must be a Canadian citizen. You then download the form from the website & take the picture according to the requirement. The submit the form to the office.

香港出世紙及加拿大出世紙在加拿大對小朋友將來發展工作讀書有沒有分別？

With my understanding, in order to obtain the citizenship for baby born outside the territory, you have to be either registered as a Non Resident Canadian or declared the purpose for leaving, in this way, you could contact the local Consulate General of Canada for obtaining the citizenship of your baby just by filling in the some forms. This is information I got for few years already, hope this help.
