bunnymonkey,

I just got marry last year and if everything goes well, YUP, it's gonna be my first baby. I wish I can get conception in the next few months.

I have started preparing my body for pregnancy such as taking prenatal vitnams and read a lot of pregnancy book :>

I actually have never been to Palo Alto, so regarding the living life there, I have lots of questions and concerns. My husband and I are currently living in Hong Kong, but my husband's business is mainly in Palo Alto and he prefer the life style in Palo Alto over HK , so I decided to move over there.

How long have you been living in Mountain View? Do you like it ? Is it convenient to get supply for Chinese cooking? Have you heard people get Chinese lady nanny?
BTW, your baby is adorable, he looks like Eurasian.

If I give birth, my husband told me that the Stanford hospital is very good in Palo Alto.

Hi bebeting and honeybeeyy,
Welcome to BK!

Bunnymonkey,
I didn't have a coffee break, I just went in and got a iced coffee to go. I've been drinking iced coffee from Peet's like crazy
It's always nice to plan ahead of time. There is always a waiting list for popular daycare/pre-school. Do you plan to send your son to daycare when he turns a little older? Or you prefer to let him stay with the daycare (homecare E E) until he is old enough for pre-school?

Hello honeybeeyy,

My husband live in here for almost 20 years. I just moved from HK to Fremont on early July. My daughter is 14 months old. Nice to meet you. My sister-in-law had hired chinese nanny before but I have to ask her for details. Any information you want to know about?

小妤媽媽,

Nice to meet you! Your baby girl is very lovely :> You have just moved to Fremont from HK, are you still adjusting to the life there? Are you full-time Mama now?

I'm planning to move to Palo Alto probably end of this year around Nov/ Dec. My husband has been flying back and forth from HK to Palo Alto very often and it's very exhausting for both of us....

Because I don't have family living in US, I think I might wanna hire a chinese lady nanny next year after giving birth such as 坐月時可以有個nanny分擔家務. I wonder how much is it gonna cost to hire a part-time nanny ? Where are thses ladies from usually?

honeybeeyy,

oh you are not pregnant yet.. hehee.. I bet you are a very good planner! :D Good luck and wish you will get pregant soon. Are you going to visit Palo Alto and the around area first before you move? Anyway, I like to live here compare to HK.

I have been living in Sunnyvale/Mountain View since 2001 but I have been in the US since 1994. :) It's convenient to get Chinese ingredients for cooking etc here. Bay area has a big Chinese/Asian population. :)

From what I head, the "pui月" Ah Yee for the first month, those cost about US$2500/month. You include their meals and accomodation. The lady will live in your house to take care of the baby and may cook for you as well.
When your baby is bigger (not "pui 月" type), the live-in-nanny usually cost from ~$1200-1700 per month in this area. Part-time nanny coule be from $10-20+ per hour. The lady could be from Mainland or any other place. It depends on which one you found.

Thank you. My baby looks like Eurasian? Really? hehe.. no one mention that. Baby's dad is Chinese too.

I may need to look into more info for the pre-schools later. Do you have any recommendation for any pre-school in Mountain View area?

Thanks for the info! If I can't find other pre-school that's cheaper (and still OK quality) close to my house, I will seriously consider Yew Chung as it's pretty close to my house and they teach Chinese as well.

BTW, what's the price range for pre-school in the Mtv View, Sunnyvale (up to redwood city) area? Let say for a 3 yr old full-time (like 8 or 9am to 6pm)?

as far as i know ... in general, christian/catholic preschools are usually a bit cheaper than the other ones.

christian/catholic preschools (potty-trained, full time): around $1000/month.
others: abt $1200-$1600/month

I see. If I can find a decent Christian school, that will be a bonus. I went to Christian kindergarten, primary, and secondary schools myself. I was thinking to send my son to Sunday school when he's a bit older.

Hi bunnymonkey,
I was in Mt. View with my husband for his site visit. Have you tried the iced coffee at Peet's? I am drinking one as I am typing to you . It's part of my life now, got to get one everyday.
My son will start pre-school next Thursday. He'll go to Valley Christian School in Dublin full time. $990 a month with optional lunch @ $3.5 per day.

meeemeee,

i remembered the full time tuition at Fremont Christian included the lunches as well. and the price was abt the same as Valley Christian. in that case, Fremont Christian's really good price (assume that they don't increase the tution a lot).

"siu yu" ma ma,
u can definitely consider Fremont Christian preschool. they take kids starting from 2 (no need to be potty trained). my kid went there for abt a year from 2 yrs old, but we switched to his current preschool after he's potty-trained since it's a bit too far.

yungah,

u live in cupertino, right?

did u go to the brand new and expanded Whole Food in cupertino? they've moved across the street but expanded. now with the "order to cook" food court (chinese, japanese and american food).

i was there on Wed after my son's group piano class was over. lots of people there and took us a long time to park. no wonder .... when i got home and looked at the receipt, realized that there was $5 off if u purchased $25 and over.

btw, after i've visited several campuses of Challenger, i realized that the schools don't care too much abt the safety and happiness of the kids but academic.

Strafford is probably abt the same, coz it's formed by the former teachers from Challenger.

Hi SY_MOM,

Yes, you are right. Lunches are included in the tuition at FCS. We have considered FCS for Marcus (Candace attended FCS from pre-school thru 1st grade). However, almost all the experienced teachers are gone at the main campus. Actually, FCS is more convenient for me but we decided to go to VCS.

Hi SY_Mom,

I didn't go to the new Whole Food yet, Wed was the Grand opening day so there must be crowd. I will go next week and try the "order to cook" food court.

So you don't like Challenger and Stattford, I just heard they are good. I didn't visit any pre school campus, but I will visit them later. Thanks for your comments.

Do you have any pre school suggesstion for me? I only know Challenger, Stattford & Yew Chung, but my husband doesn't want MattMatt go to Yew Chung, he perfer Sat Chinese class instead of Chinese pre school, even though our friend highly recommend it.

Where do you live? Your son takes piano class in Cupertino?

yungah,

the new Whole Food in cupertino is much larger than the old one. u must check it out! my son likes the tofu sushi (the only kind of sushi he likes) there. it's just like a block from the music school so we usually went there to pick up something to eat.
however, not sure if we'll keep enrolling him into the next group piano class session since he seems not too interested in it. he can read the musical notes and played the simple songs (but not too fluently). coz he never likes to practice playing piano at home. luckily we haven't got a piano at home yet. we just took out an old keyboard for him.

sigh ... i know my son is not a "c men" guy. he only likes to play with the computer and sports. he went to the piano class and drawing class only becoz he likes to hang out with other people.

btw, just found out my son's cousin just started the 3-yr-old class at Yew Chung today. he used to go to Waha Montessori (bilingual school but mostly chinese) in cupertino when he's 2. now his mom has to learn talking to him in mandarin coz he already get used to talking in mandarin. Waha is in cupertino but i think it's very expensive (with most teachers from mainland china) and they only offered full day program for the toddlers. so my hubby's cousin paid like $1200-$1400 a month even if he stayed there for 1/2 day only.
